National Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time, and non-exempt remote position to a candidate who will provide valuable communications and marketing execution.

About the NFF: *The NFF works with communities and organizations to conserve and enhance the watersheds, wildlife habitat, wild places, and recreational opportunities across the 193-million-acre National Forest System. The NFF seeks to engage all Americans in this work.

Position Function: The Communications Associate will report to the Communications Manager and work closely with the NFF Marketing and Communications staff to create a wide variety of content for our target audiences, donors, partners, and the general public. This position will utilize storytelling to share information about the work of the NFF and provide compelling education about the National Forest System. The Communications Associate will support the Marketing and Communications team to elevate the NFF brand and our impact across print and digital channels.

Position Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Associate will:

  • Research and write blog posts featuring National Forests and the work of the NFF.
  • Develop and edit content for nationalforests.org.
  • Provide copyediting support for written materials throughout the organization.
  • Research and write articles for NFF bi-annual magazine.
  • Assist with management of organization’s digital asset management system.
  • Develop content for NFF publications including NFF annual report and brochures.
  • Work closely with the team to write content for email cultivations and fundraising campaigns.
  • Coordinate with the team to develop content to support NFF social media strategy.
  • Provide corporate partner communications support and provide excellent customer service in coordination with development staff.

Education and Qualifications: * NFF expects the Communications Associate to possess the following educational and experiential qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission of the National Forest Foundation.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially verbal, writing, and editing.
  • Associate degree in communications, marketing, or a related field and at least 2 years of communications experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a variety of applications including Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Prior knowledge of the natural resources and conservation field is a plus.

  • Ability to represent the NFF in a clear and professional manner through excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well, and be flexible in, a team-oriented environment.
  • A strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and interpret conservation topics and project information.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities concurrently.

Location: The location for this position is flexible within the United States. This position is a remote/work from home position and requires reliable high-speed internet access.
Compensation: The NFF offers competitive compensation commensurate with candidate skills, experience, and location. Total rewards at NFF, beyond salary, include generous paid time off, employer contributions to health savings accounts, matching funds for retirement, and more. NFF has recently (August 2022) implemented a new compensation program with grade levels as part of our commitment to transparency. The salary range for this position will be in the $37,800 to $49,100 range. Please note that the indicated salary range describes the full range for an incumbent in this position. Most new staff generally start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.
