Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Reporting Relationship: Construction Superintendent

Location: Belcourt, ND (Temporary)

The Construction Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily operations at a worksite to ensure the completion of projects in a safe and efficient manner. This position is a secondary supervisory role for a construction site. With appropriate industry experience and training, this position should be able to direct, supervise and troubleshoot routine issues that occur on the job site, while ensuring safety rules are always followed on the site, as well as helping to develop work schedules based on employee and contractor availability. This position will also be responsible for reading and understanding project documents, ensuring adequate materials and resources are procured and present in the field so the project may meet the completion and budget timeline. The Construction Foreman is also responsible for problem solving in the field any issues that arise with installation activities, discussing issues with appropriate Project Management personnel, and preparing daily field reports to be submitted to the Project Manager for all field activities. This position will be the main point of contact for the customer in the field and shall possess excellent interpersonal skills and customer interaction skills to interact with clients. This position will lead a crew of laborers for general labor construction activities and be responsible for always upholding the Prairie Band Construction Safety and Quality Control procedures for all field work.

This position will be required to clear a BIE background check.

This is a temporary position to be filled at the Turtle Mountain Elementary School Installation of Lockers project, located in Belcourt, North Dakota.

Major Duties:

  • Managing Construction Workers and trade professionals to perform specific tasks
  • Monitoring budgeting expenses for Workers, supplies, or tools, and reviewing laws and regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery, and personnel
  • Delegate individual responsibilities and projects to crew members and subcontractors
  • Provide adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices, and safety needs
  • Emphasizing safe use of tools, machinery, and equipment while providing training on safety gear, helmets, and procedures
  • Helping develop and manage project budgets and quality standards for the Jobsite/project.
  • Resolve conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably
  • Regularly report project status to supervisors, site engineers, and other officials

This position should also possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • High School diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, present information and respond to questions, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to organize, multi-task, plan and set priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to help with production, scheduling and routing.

  • Decision-making skills for selecting personnel and subcontractors for specific tasks and jobs to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Leadership skills for effectively delegating tasks to lower-level managers, subcontractors, and construction workers.
  • Speaking skills for providing clear orders, explaining complex information to clients and construction workers, and discussing technical details with other building specialists.
  • Technical skills for interpreting construction methods and technologies along with contracts and technical drawings.
  • Time-management skills to meet deadlines and ensure construction phases are completed on time so that the next phase can start.
  • Writing skills for helping write miscellaneous project plans along with documenting work progress for clients and others involved.
  • Technology skills utilizing computer, tablet, smart phone as well as computer software such as PDF readers and Microsoft Suite.
  • Willing to work non-standard hours on occasion.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred.
  • OSHA 30 Hour certification preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Willing to assist with laborer duties as needed to meet project completion milestones.

Physical Demands:

  • Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to perform physical activities which requires considerable use of arms, legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling various materials.
  • Ability to frequently move supplies up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift weight consisting of seventy-five (75) pounds.
  • Ability to read computer screens, email and talk on the phone.

Work Environment:

  • Work conditions include but are not limited to, inadequate lighting, restricted movement, dirty environment, air contamination, extreme temperatures, intense noise and hazardous materials.
