The mission of Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) is to heal families and inspire youth to reach their full potential. For 48 years, ARCC has provided a wide range of behavioral health counseling and school-based support, designed to promote health equity & educational equity, and ensure that high-risk youth stay safe, in school, and drug & violence free. The agency supports a predominantly Latinx (70%) population in underserved schools and neighborhoods throughout Santa Clara County with a focus on the high-need area of East and Central San Jose. ARCC staff provide services to youth and caregivers who otherwise might struggle to afford and/or access quality care. In 2020-21, the agency served 6,000+ individuals, through 13 different programs, including individual and family counseling, substance use prevention education, youth mentoring, family reunification, parent training/support, and services in 40+ high-need schools.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the programmatic supervision of the SEAS Program Manager, the Counselor II provides Medi-Cal appropriate and approved individual therapy, rehabilitation, collateral, family therapy and case management services to youth exhibiting and/or engaging in high-risk or delinquent behavior in a school based setting. Employing evidence- based practices, the Counselor II provides services to high school students who are behaviorally beyond control of their guardians, curfew violations, substance use, gang involvement, poor school attendance, depression, anxiety and other delinquent behavior. This position may require travel within the community, but services will generally be provided at the Foundation for Hispanic Education high school campus sites.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide individual therapy, rehabilitation, case management, family therapy, collateral and supportive counseling at school sites across Santa Clara County.
- Conduct follow-up contact for each client in a timely manner.
- Respond to client phone calls within 24 hours.
- Maintain Medi-Cal documentation and Medi-Cal appropriate client files and complete required paperwork including intake, psychosocial assessments, service plans, case notes, youth performance outcome forms, etc. within expected timeframe.
- Meet productivity expectation of agency and contract deliverables.
- May travel to 3 different school locations on a weekly basis, but predominantly stationed at one school location.
- Maintain an active caseload of 16-20 clients per week.
- If productivity expectations are not met, the program manager will increase caseload.
- Attend Back to School Night and Staff Meetings on an ongoing basis.
- Attend outreach services through community fairs and presentations to school personnel and community groups, as needed.
- Attend weekly meetings, weekly individual supervision, weekly group supervision, and weekly programmatic supervision, and trainings necessary for professional development and as required for the agency or its funding sources.
- Understand and adhere to the laws governing child abuse reporting.
- Administer evaluation surveys as required by contract.
- Complete PSC, CANS, YSS/YSS-F Surveys, and others within the required timeframes.
- Complete monthly audits and audit corrections within the deadlines.
- Maintain a healthy work relationship and boundaries with ARCC staff and partner schools.
- Adhere to ARCC, Santa Clara County, and California policies and procedures.
- Perform related duties as assigned by program manager for the benefit of the agency and its clients.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in psychology, social work counseling or related field; ASW, AMFT, or APCC from an accredited college or university
- BBS registration required.
- At least two years’ experience in a school-based service agency as a counselor, therapist or related position.
- Bilingual/biliterate competence in Spanish/English or Vietnamese/English (preferred).
- Medi-Cal documentation trained (preferred).
- Experience working with diverse ethnic/cultural backgrounds.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Able to work independently and as a positive member of a team.
- Fingerprinting and background check as required by the Department of Justice.
- Valid CA driver’s license, an automobile for agency travel, and proof of current auto insurance.
- TB clearance required.
- Proof of COVID19 vaccination; vaccinated and fully boosted.

Pay: $76,230.95 - $79,706.52 per year
