The building custodian plays an integral role in providing a safe and healthy learning and working environment for staff and agency Service Recipients, by ensuring that buildings are functionally and aesthetically intact. The Custodian will ensure that buildings are tidy, clean and well-maintained each evening. To ensure success in this role, the custodian must be skilled at prioritizing tasks and taking pride in their work.

OBJECTIVE: To maintain a clean, healthy and safe environment. This position requires a reliable and efficient well-trained professional cleaning staff person with the ability to utilize aerosol disinfecting machines to clean and sanitize the work environment and to assure a pathogen-free environment.

HOURS: This position is a Full-Time position, Monday through Friday - 8:30am - 5:00pm

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works with both standard and EPA/CDC approved chemicals and finishes for cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfection.
• Performs scheduled full cleaning assignments including deep cleaning to minimize the spread of COVID germs.
• Dust mops or vacuums floors and dusts rooms, uses various vacuum cleaners, including a backpack vacuum.
• Washes windows and doors as appropriate
• Cleans offices, hallways, common areas and other areas
• Cleans, dusts, mops, strips and waxes floors
• Clean and disinfect all containers inside rooms daily, all programs, plexi glasses/sneeze guards, hallways, walls, bathrooms in service delivery rooms, etc.,
• Clean and disinfect container’s this includes biohazard containers, regular garbage/trash containers.
• Measures and labels chemicals correctly for cleaning tasks, and safely handles chemical dispensing units
• Cleans, maintains, and stores equipment and PPE proficiently
• Keeps inventory of floor areas, and schedules cleaning and maintenance duties
• Ensures that restrooms are cleaned and sanitized
• Ensures that the buildings are secured and locked daily according to procedures
• Replenishes, maintains, and repairs tissue, soap and paper dispensers
• Wipes desks, chairs, walls, tables, and other room surfaces and furnishings
• Meticulous cleaning and disinfecting process that primarily focus on high tough surfaces to include door knobs, microwave door handles, refrigerators, microwaves, light switches, and wipe down file cabinets.
• Removes trash and re-lines trash receptacles
• Removes snow (or other debris) from walkways to minimize slip hazards
• Continually checks, corrects, or reports dangerous equipment conditions and potentially hazardous situations
• Assists as requested in building clean-up and other projects as assigned
• Makes necessary arrangements with immediate supervisor for coverage of all events and activities as requested
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• Attend all job required training for the agency and or DDD mandated couses which includes COVID-19 Education and Safety Strategies and Blood Borne Pathogen training lessons.
• Maintain an excellent attendance record must report to work on-time.
• Ability to use aerosolizing disinfectant sprayer machine (110V, ULV Sprayer Electric Ultra-Low Capacity Sprayer, ULV Fogger Cleaning and Disinfection Machine.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent
• Floor maintenance experience required; including experience working with a variety of floor care tools, equipment, cleaning supplies, agents and cleaning supplies/chemicals
• Proficient knowledge of cleaning equipment and agents
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Proficient with handling basic maintenance repairs
• Physically agile and dexterous
• Available to work after hours
• Resilient to cleaning agents and chemicals
• Outstanding organizational skills

This position operates in an indoor and or outside fieldwork setting where exposure to weather elements, dirt, and dust, unpleasant smells, and/or loud noises are possible indoor temperature fluctuation on occasion.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: verbally communicate with others, maintain a stationary position (standing and sitting), move/traverse, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time, lift up to 10 lbs, maneuver an occupied wheelchair, (navigate a Hoyer lift and or drive a 6 person passenger van - depending on the position).
