Deckhand Job at Stevens Towing Co. of NC LLC
Company Overview:
Stevens Towing Co. of North Carolina, based out of Edenton NC, is looking for an individual with a maritime background to work aboard one of our tugboats as a deckhand. Stevens Towing Co of North Carolina owns and operates tugboats along with a large fleet of jumbo hopper barges which are used to move Steel, DRI, Wood Chips, Scrap Steel, and Pig Iron. Our tugs primarily travel between our home port in Edenton NC north to Norfolk, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Camden NJ as well as south to Morehead City, Wilmington, and Charleston SC.
Requirements:
- Valid Drivers License (required)
- TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card) Issued by Homeland Security (required)
- Must pass DOT Physical and DOT Drug Screen (required)
- Experience working in the maritime industry (preferred)
Schedule:
- 28 days on 14 days off
Compensation and Benefits:
- Daily Rate will be determined based on experience. Daily Rate starts at $150.
- After successful completion of the 90-day probationary period, employees are eligible for company benefits such as: health, dental, vision, life insurance, short/long-term disability insurance, 401K with company matching of 4%, and PTO.
General Job Description:
The expectations for a Deckhand employed with Stevens Towing Co of NC include but are not limited to:
- Ability to understand and comprehend duties/responsibilities given by the Master or Mate.
- Responsible for keeping the non-engineering areas of the vessel in good condition.
- Required to clean inside and outside of the boat (scrub and wash floors, wash windows, polish brass equipment, wash, and paint exterior decks/bulkheads).
- Responsible for cooking meals and keeping the galley clean. Required to wash dishes after meals. Required to clean the stove and oven weekly.
- Ability to throw heavy lines and secure large working lines quickly.
- Responsible for regularly checking barges.
- Responsible for setting out navigation lights and checking them regularly.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.Working Environment:
Constant outside working conditions and frequent engine room conditions with loud noise, fumes, odors, chemicals, dust, extreme cold, extreme heat, and risks of electrical shock, sun glare and /or exposure to arc lights. Occasional inside conditions.
