- Hourly rate negotiable. Posted rates do not include available incentives such as education, bilingual pay, certification pay, etc.
The position is represented by the Federation of Oregon Parole and Probation Officers. In addition to the salary range listed above, Community Corrections Deputy Sheriff’s with the Sheriff’s Office receive a generous benefit package including:

- Prepares written reports and maintains Corrections Information System (CIS) records necessary to the effective operation of the program.
- Conducts personal interviews with clients to ascertain risk/need/responsivity issues; develops case plans with clients; maintains chronological case histories; confers with spouses, families, employers, and other service agencies relative to client needs; conducts interviews and investigations of clients on probation, parole, or post-prison supervision.
- Presents facts and evaluation of cases to court; carries out disposition ordered by court.
- Confers with supervisor, other staff, other social welfare agencies, schools, churches, public health agencies, law enforcement agencies, businesses, and others relative to individual cases in outlining treatment and care programs.
- Confers with supervisor and/or senior Community Corrections Deputy prior to making sanctioning decisions.
- Maintains responsibility for specimen collection and monitoring of offenders' drug and alcohol testing.
- May have contact with aggressive clients or volatile situations. Will be required to respond to emergency situations and interact to diffuse aggressive behavior utilizing corrections techniques and established disciplinary controls.

- At least 21 years of age at the time of employment (Marion County Sheriff's Office will consider applicants who are age 20, if they meet the qualifications of the position and are age 21 within 90 days from the recruitment close date.)
- Declared by a physician as able to perform the physical duties required by the occupation
- Of good moral fitness, without legal conduct involving moral turpitude, dishonesty, fraud, deceit, misrepresentation, and conviction of drug and/or sex crimes.
- Information regarding the minimum qualifications and physical requirements for Oregon law enforcement officers is available in section 259-008-0010 of the Oregon Administrative Rules.
- Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business. - Finalists for this position are subject to an extensive background investigation.
- Finalist will be required to pass a psychological and physical exam.
- Ability to hold, aim, and discharge firearm with sufficient accuracy to maintain minimum department qualifications.
- Must complete Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) within first year of employment.
- This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana. - This position normally works Monday - Friday, Day Shift, with flexibility for evening or weekend work, according to departmental needs.
- Graduation from a four (4) year college or university; OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position as determined by Marion County; AND
- Must obtain Basic Parole and Probation certification from the State Department of Public Safety, Standards and Training (DPSST) within one year of hire.
- Meets trainee level requirements; AND one year of experience in professional case work; OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of adult or juvenile parole and probation experience, education and training as determined by Marion County; AND
- Possess a Basic Parole and Probation certification from the State Department of Public Safety, Standards and Training (DPSST). If in possession of an out-of-state Community Corrections certification, must attend and pass the DPSST Basic Parole and Probation Academy within one year of hire.
- Applicants must complete ONE of the following academic proficiencies:
- Recent (within the past twelve months) FrontLine test or REACT test with National Testing Network (NTN).
- Possess a four-year, post-secondary degree issued by an accredited, degree-granting college or university recognized by the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization under the provisions of ORS 348-604; OR
- Successfully completed training resulting in the award of Basic Parole and Probation certification from Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).
- Applicants must complete ONE of the following physical proficiencies:
- Recent (within the past twelve months) Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) completed time from an Oregon Law Enforcement organization or authorized testing agency (NTN).
- Recent (within the past twelve months) Physical Abilities Test (PAT) completed time from a Military or Law Enforcement related source.
- Successfully completed training resulting in the award of Basic Parole and Probation certification from Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).
- Applicants must complete the NEOGOV (Marion County Sheriff's Office) application.
PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, full-time employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. VETERANS’ PREFERENCE
