Selah House is the only licensed inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization program (PHP) eating disorder treatment center in the state of Indiana.

he Dietary Care Specialist performs a variety of duties in support in support of the dietary needs of the clients at Selah House (SH). Position is also responsible for greeting and serving clients, and guests in a professional and welcoming manner.

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting with the process of preparing the weekday meals for the clients of Selah House (SH) and working closely with the Dietitians with meal planning.


Relationships and Contacts

Within the organization: Maintains frequent and close working relationships with clients, Dietitians, Therapists, Management, Clinical Director, facility leadership, peers and vendors.

Outside the organization: May initiate and maintain working relationships with clinical providers, referral partners and vendors as needed and directed.


Position Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serves as a key member of the Selah House team regarding dietary needs, menus, food preferences while maintaining stock levels of foods appropriate for the day to day operations of the kitchens.
  • Ensures that any special dietary needs of the clients are met.
  • Follows all health and safety guidelines for storage and preparation of food items. S/he will be

responsible for ensuring that temperature controls of food storage refrigerators/freezers are maintained at the appropriate levels and are checked daily.

  • Assists with ensuring all kitchen appliances are in good working order and are cleaned and disinfected on a routine basis.
  • Assist with all food preparation activities while are doing so in a safe, sanitary and efficient manner.
  • Ensures the dining and kitchen areas are clean and mentors client’s participation in any clean-up activities.
  • Assists with the coordination of morning and weekend meals to ensure that food is prepared and/or on hand for the staff to set up and serve.
  • Assists in promoting and ensuring that the mission, goals and objectives of SH are understood and actively supported by the employees.
  • May prepare extra meals for visitors and/or staff.
  • Determines the presence of unhealthy/unsafe conditions in the work area and reports these conditions to the proper personnel.
  • Ensures that SH follows all food safety, health safety, food service and sanitation standards.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications related to Selah House Mission and population.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Functions within the guidelines of the facility’s Code of Ethics and in accordance with corporate compliance.
  • Assists in promoting and ensuring that the mission, goals and objectives of SH are understood and actively supported by the employees.
  • Provides a high level of customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Accomplishes organization mission by completing other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Minimum of two-year’s experience working in facility dietary setting is strongly desired. High school diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to communicate with peers, clients and/or vendors.
  • Required to work with kitchen appliances and utensils; exposure to hot surfaces, electrical and gas appliances and sharp objects.
  • Job performance will require the ability to move throughout the building.
  • Performs duties that require the employee to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to talk or hear, sit, stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste or smell
  • Ability to move up to 50 pounds


Other Requirements

Position requires incumbent to have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
