Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Biostatistics, the Director of Academic Programs manages all aspects of the educational programs in the Department of Biostatistics, including (but not limited to) admissions, teaching schedules, classroom assignments, student recruitment, student advising, career placement, maintenance of student handbook, and all other student affairs matters.

Responsibilities

Create and implement strategic plans for continued innovation and improvement of the overall student experience – including, but not limited to, potential expansions of teaching programs and/or modalities. 10%

Implement and evaluate programs and activities to optimize student academic and professional success. Design and conduct comprehensive assessment of student activities. Develop and implement job placement strategies. 10%

Direct the administrative operations of the academic programs in biostatistics, including, but not limited to: assign instructors and teaching assistants; recruit course instructors as needed; schedule course times, dates, and locations; ensure that educational space needs are met; review admissions applications for all master's and doctoral programs; direct department student advising; manage recruitment, orientation, and registration activities; direct alumni relations and outreach; maintain and amend the student handbook as needed; assist faculty with online and hybrid course delivery; manage the operations of the Department's summer programs; oversee the department's communications operations. 60%

Cultivate relationships with external organizations for student practicum and internship experiences and/or post-graduation employment opportunities.

Represent the department on school-wide committees, including those for master's program admissions, academic standards, admitted student events, and new student orientation. 5%

Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested. 5%

Incumbent works independently with oversight from the Vice Chair for Education and the Department Chair. Incumbent directly supervises two administrative coordinators and is responsible for oversight of their job duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of professional leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A background or experience in public health education and a Master's degree in higher ed or related field preferred.

Excellent analytical, organizational, writing, computer and web skills essential.
