The Shinola Hotel comprises two renovated structures – the Rayl Building (designed by architecture firm Baxter, O’Dell & Halpin and constructed in 1915 for Rayl’s hardware store) and the Singer Building (designed by architecture firm Smith, Hinchman & Grylls and constructed in 1936 for the Singer sewing-machine company) – and three new properties. The complex was developed by Bedrock Real Estate Developers and architecture firm Kraemer Design Group in 2018. It stands at 150,000 sq. ft with hotel, meeting space, restaurant and retail.
Situated on the corner of Iconic Woodward Avenue in the heart of Downtown Detroit, the Shinola Hotel is defined by a timeless sense of style, approachable service, and an obsession with quality craftsmanship, our luxury hotel was meant for living and sharing in good times with great company.
Our Director of Engineering will be responsible for maintaining the hotels appearance, Building management systems, equipment and grounds upkeep. This position also requires prior leadership and managerial experience.
As a member of the management team you will be expected to
lead by example and assist in guiding your team into achieving outstanding
service and performance goals, while motivating everyone on your team to work
proactively and ensure the success of the property.

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintaining engineering standards according to hotel standard operating procedures and culture.
- Deal effectively with people, creating teamwork, motivating and using an uplifting and lead-by example approach.
- Ensure proper maintenance and upkeep to the hotel property and grounds.
- Assist in overseeing the actions of maintenance subcontractors.
- Assist with compliance with maintenance policy and procedures.
- Interface with hotel's management team to insure a teamwork approach to the property.
- Maintain punch list.
- Two or more years of maintenance experience (construction or maintenance background, multiunit or hotel experience ideal).
- English skills, both written and verbal.
- Great organizational skills.

- Must have great problem-solving skills.
- Must be a creative thinker.
- Must be able to multitask.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must be a great communicator.
- Good knowledge of wall repair and basic carpentry.
- Good knowledge of doors, cabinets and other wood maintenance.
- Good knowledge of door and window systems.
- Good knowledge of magnetic & RFID door lock systems and maintenance in addition to conventional lock systems.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
Must have good knowledge the following:
- Cooling towers.
- Plumbing, boilers, gas, and pumps.
- Water source heat pump experience.
- Water intrusion.
- Electrical
- Interior and exterior lighting.
- Information technologies (it).
General:
- Chemical water treatment system.
- Skilled in using power tools.
- Gas fixtures and appliances.
- Fireplaces knowledge a plus.
- At least 3 years’ experience in hotel/property engineering.
- Familiar with boutique hotel maintenance.
- Good knowledge of Detroit.
- Hotel engineering vendor relationships.
