Job Description
The Director leads activities within the finance area and provides strategic direction . The role, working independently, is responsible for driving completion of highly complex financial, accounting and economic analyses. This role prepares and presents recommendations to senior managers and may represent the organization externally. Essential Responsibilities: Individual Responsibilities:
- 80% Review of Financial Results
- Responsible for reviewing accounting activities such as journal entries, reconciliations of complex general ledger accounts, and state filings, footnotes, and financial statement pages
- Responsible for analyzing financial results and reviewing analysis prepared by others
- Responsible for synthesizing analysis to tell a narrative story to senior financial manager
- Reviews work performed by staff accountants and provides feedback
- Shows an advanced degree of proficiency with reporting and analysis tools
- Anticipates needs for accounting and reporting enhancements
- Promotes a culture of change management and encourages operational improvement
- Manages and maintains relationships with critical stakeholders outside of formal authority
- Mentors and provides guidance to accounting staff other duties as assigned Shared Responsibilities: 20% Collaborate Team Support
- Shares best practices with other team members and makes recommendations for process improvements
- Leads other team members on various projects and analyses
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
- MBA, CFA or CPA preferred • Typically, 12 or more years of experience
- Possesses advanced ability to draft managerial reporting narratives.
- Demonstrates advanced proficiency in own subject area; is recognized as an expert within and outside the organization
- Contributes to the development of functional strategy
- Influences industry best practices through participation in industry associations and conferences, research, and pioneering.
- Meticulous, well-organized, and excellent analytical skills
- Demonstrates ability to lead complex cross BU or cross divisional processes or projects and effectively work through others.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of accounting rules, regulatory rules and/or business processes as it pertains to the accountant's sphere of responsibility (e.g., a set of regulatory filings or account reconciliations)
Decision Authorities:
- Prioritizing and reprioritizing work deliverables and projects for internal clients based on changing business needs (deadlines, costs, scope of projects)
- Managing internal and external resources to achieve targets
- Day to Day operational decision-making authority
- Decisions at this position are made using judgment based on skills and knowledge already developed
- Decisions beyond normal day to day may require escalation to management
- Running projects and major deliverables

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.
Primary Location
Boston, MassachusettsSalary range is expected to be between
$111,900.00 USD - $201,420.00 USDIf you are applying for this role outside of the primary location, please contact recruitment@manulife.com for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
