Director of Operations Job at Nicholas Air
The Director of Operations reports to the Senior Executive Leadership. The Director of Operations is ultimately responsible for the entire scope of NICHOLAS AIR’S flight department and program under 14 CFR 135 and 14 CFR 121S operations.
Operational Control authority:
- NICHOLAS AIR’s Operational Control begins with the Director of Operations. All operational control authority listed in the manual is issued through the Director of Operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Operations is responsible for:
- Meeting the requirements of 14 CFR Part 119.67 and 119.71 and or has a waiver from the FAA to serve in this position.
- Maintaining the primary authority to exercise operations control over all aircraft operations. The Director of Operations may delegate operational control authority to other designated managers and operations personnel, as relevant to their job descriptions.
- Ensuring that NICHOLAS AIR alone conducts operations authorized in its Operations Specifications.
- The entire scope of the flight department, including the managing and facilitating of operations and maintenance, and coordinating the flight department’s activities with customers as appropriate.
- The safe operation of all aircraft owned, operated, or managed by NICHOLAS AIR.
- The coordination of all departments to ensure a smoothly functioning operation that fully meets the mission statement of NICHOLAS AIR.
- The execution and oversight of NICHOLAS AIR policies, procedures and procedures and ensuring that all activities of the departments under his oversite comply with NICHOLAS AIR’s standards and are in compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations governing flight activities.
- The implementation and supervision of day-to-day flight operations, including Operational Control, to ensure compliance with established NICHOLAS AIR policies, FAA Operations Specifications, applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, Advisory Circulars, and other associated regulatory programs.
- Maintaining the authority to implement changes as required to maintain compliance and practices consistent with good operating procedures and safety.
- Preparing and submitting petitions for exemptions to Federal Aviation Regulations which affect NICHOLAS AIR and coordinating with the appropriate departments to ensure comprehension of and compliance with deviations and exemptions as required. The Director of Operations coordinates the preparation of any and all Voluntary Self Disclosures, as required.
- Interpreting the application and effect of all Federal Aviation Regulations, Special FARs, Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, exemptions, and Advisory Circulars on NICHOLAS AIR operations and for advising department heads of any changes that might affect their department.
- Coordinating with the Director of Maintenance for the scheduling of aircraft into and out of maintenance.
- Evaluating the training and testing of personnel and exploring training program options.
- Distribution and posting information or memoranda relative to changes affecting NICHOLAS AIR’s policies, route information, NAVAIDs, NOTAMs, manuals, etc.
- Sending notification to the appropriate agency in the case of an incident, accident, or other reportable event notification.
- Having the final approval on the selection, training, retention, and termination of all flight crew personnel, however, concurrence with the General Manager is necessary. The Director of Operations also participates in merit reviews and compensation of employees.
- Acting for the Certificate holder, including the signing of FAA correspondence.
- Originating new and effecting changes to the appropriate Operations and Management Specifications and developing policy for incorporation into the General Operations Manual. The Director of Operations has the authority to sign Sections A, B, C, D, and E of the FAA-approved Operations and Management Specifications.
- Coordinating and implementing the FAA-approved drug and alcohol testing program.
- Conducting NICHOLAS AIR ground and emergency training in accordance with NICHOLAS AIR’s approved Training Program Manual.
- Establishing, monitoring, and maintaining company files and pilot records as required by the code of federal regulations and NICHOLAS AIR policy.
- Implementing corporate policies and directives.
- The quarterly review of the General Operations Manual with the management staff to facilitate process improvements and coordinating with the FAA Principal Operations Inspector.
The Director of Operations may delegate any or all duties of the Director of Operations to a qualified individual; however, such delegation does not relieve the Director of Operations of the overall responsibility.
REQUIREMENTS
- This position is required to report daily to the Oxford, MS Headquarters.
- Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must have authorization to work in the U.S.
