Job Summary:

North Kern Tulare Hospital District is looking for a Director of Staff Development (DSD) to join our Delano District Skilled Nursing Facility. The ideal candidate for this position will work alongside the SNF Administrator and Director of Nursing (DON) to ensure the safety of our residents, employees, visitors, and vendors.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
  • Works with Human Resources, Administrator and DON when scheduling modified work duty employees in accordance with work restrictions and facility policy.
  • Assists in completion of filing of designated reports in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assists in obtaining nursing care staff information needed for daily orientation.
  • Consults with nursing department staff and supervisors concerning staffing/scheduling needs; to assist in elimination/correction of problems areas, and/or improvement of services.
  • Makes written/oral reports/ recommendations to the DNS concerning staffing and scheduling issues.
  • Develops and maintains a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility.
  • Ensures administrative functions are carried out promptly for an efficient operation.
  • Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
  • Plans, develops, directs, evaluates, and coordinates educational programs to this facility.
  • Incorporate commercially produced instruction material and training aids into existing in-service programs as deemed necessary.
  • Provides leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service’s educational programs of this facility.
  • Secures, develops, and maintains records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials, etc.., pertinent to in service educational programs.
  • Performs administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, class attendance and subject records, etc.
  • Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator/DNS concerning in-service training.
  • Assumes the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the in-service educational programs.
  • Remain current on new developments by attending professional institutions, reading professional journals and attending professional seminars.
  • Prepares renewal applications for approval by DHS for Orientation, In-service training, Nursing Assistant Program.
  • Attends and participates in professional associations activities and programs, etc.., to assure that you keep abreast of current regulations and guidelines, as well as professional standards, and makes recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to the Administrator/DNS.
  • Ensures all the personnel attend and participate in annual facility in-service training programs (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPPA, Abuse Prevention, Safety and Infection Control, Fire and Disaster Preparedness, etc.)
  • Makes regular checks for competency of CNA skills performance, positive regard for residents, and developmental needs for direct care staff, intervenes with mini-in-service immediately if necessary.
  • Completes an Orientation Skills Return Demonstration Checklist on all CNAs and Licensed Nurses showing they are competent to perform all direct resident care tasks they will be assigned.
  • Assists in the development of the in-service training budget.
  • Ensures that copies of lesson plans, instructors’ qualifications, etc. Are filed in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures.
  • Assists with maintaining records of current certifications/licenses for nursing department employees. Give updated spreadsheet reports to DNS and/or Administrator.
  • Leads by example with all training/compliance topics, including working on the floor with staff to ensure proper implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Provides orientation and training to CNA students enrolled in the district provided training program.
  • As an instructor, DSD is responsible for approving or denying student absences.
  • As an instructor, DSD shall demonstrate skills in the clinical setting and have students perform a return demonstration of all skills noted on the CDPH 276A in the clinical setting.
  • Complete student records in a timely manner during and at the completion of the training.
  • Conduct 16- hours per week of instruction duty for the District’s CNA training program.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including having received booster shots and have proof of vaccination status.
  • Experience in Skilled Nursing/long-term care environment desired

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in healthcare required.
  • Current nursing license, LVN
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Knowledge of competency/education software

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and moving
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Salary:

$38-$45

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8a-5p with occasional Overtime
