Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is hiring a permanent, full-time Electrician 2 to perform journey level electrical work to install, maintain, repair and replace any type of electrical equipment or systems owned or controlled by OYA. This position will also work with youth to train them in a variety of building maintenance and construction skills, and to teach them good work habits, safety, housekeeping and proper use of hand and power tools.
A Day In The Life:
- Install, maintain, repair and replace any type of electrical equipment or systems including repairs to interior wiring and cables, connections for electric machines, switches and controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, distribution and instrument panels, buzzer and bell circuits hearing and power circuits, and telephone systems.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose circuit breakers and transformers, emergency generators, high voltage power lines, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, fire alarm systems, electric motors, and lighting maintenance.
- Respond to emergency failures of equipment and systems.
- Repair and troubleshoot HVAC electrical and mechanical systems.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work under the following condition with or without reasonable accommodations:
- May require responding to emergencies, equipment failures, snow and ice storms outside of regular working hours. Position is subject to afterhours call back. May be required to work overtime.
- All OYA facilities and camps are tobacco free environments
- Work requires heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, exposure to temperature extremes, harmful chemicals, noise, poor lighting and air quality, and working in heating and plumbing tunnels, on ladders, scaffolds, high buildings or platforms and occasionally requires working in inclement weather conditions.
- Must demonstrate the skill and ability to operate all vehicles and equipment that may be used to fulfill the job functions such as driving bus in morning to pick up youth offenders and transport to work areas.
- This position may require the employee to travel to other OYA facilities located throughout the state.
- Daily contact with youth offenders who exhibit hostile, assaultive behavior. This position is located in close custody facilities which requires, as a primary responsibility, strict adherence by each employee to security measures at all times to assure the custody, control and supervision of youth offenders
- Staff is expected to be a positive example and role model for other staff and youth. The staff is to be supportive toward OYA, YCF and camps policies and procedures. Being a positive role model includes but is not limited to: reliability; dependability, regular and punctual attendance in order to provide consistent services and provide public safety; neat person appearance; treating all humans with respect; and being a law-abiding citizen. Each employee is to provide a positive, affirming environment which values their fellow employees and the people they serve.

What We Are Looking For:

- Experience performing minor maintenance repairs on building fixtures and equipment.

- Read, understand, and apply schematic drawings or blueprints.
- Inspect malfunctioning equipment and determine a plan for repair, modification, or replacement.
- Interpret and apply information from procedural and manufacturer handbooks to solving problem and make decisions.
- Experience working with commercial building systems.
- Experience with Building Automation Systems.
