Position Summary


The Facilities Repair Worker-Advanced is responsible for facility maintenance which includes preventive maintenance and minor repair of equipment and building components (i.e. walls, flooring, ceilings, doors, windows, and furnishings) and general grounds maintenance (i.e. snow plowing, landscaping, and lawn care). The position provides supervision and training of inmates in mechanical maintenance and repair work assignments.

This position requires the ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding or hydraulic lifts. Also, the ability to work under unpleasant conditions such as dirty and dusty areas, extreme cold/heat and small or confined spaces. Moderate to heavy lifting will be required.

The Facilities Repair Worker-Advanced will be required to attend in-service and trainings and be available to respond to emergency call-ins when the need arises.

Salary Information


This position is in pay schedule and range 03-12 with a starting pay of $20.34/hour. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensations Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details


Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

All state employees must report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.

Qualifications


Minimally Qualified Applicants should have:

  • Knowledge of Building construction/repair concepts/techniques
  • Knowledge of Mechanical repair and maintenance principles
  • Knowledge of Janitorial and cleaning techniques
  • Knowledge of Grounds keeping and landscaping methods and procedures
  • Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment
