This position is responsible for the mechanical upkeep, repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.

The Fleet Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the mechanical upkeep, repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists with scheduling, inspecting and performing basic preventive and restorative maintenance procedures on a variety of vehicles, heavy and/or light equipment.
- Inspects, tests, identifies, adjust and repairs and/or replaces oil, air, fluids, coolants, filters, belts, spark plugs and other related items.
- Checks condition of tires. Inflates, replaces and balances tires, as necessary.
- Cleans, tests and replaces vehicle batteries; inspects belts and hoses and replaces, as necessary; writes up and/or receives work orders.
- Performs routine maintenance on light and heavy-duty vehicles equipment.
- Washes and vacuums vehicles; pick-ups and delivers vehicles to location of customer.
- Performs routine clerical duties.
- Maintains and updates a variety of reports, files and records; enters, reviews and maintains individual maintenance records; and notifies departments of scheduled service requirements.
- Assists with new vehicle set up procedures.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of applicable city, county, state and Federal statues, rules ordinances, codes, regulations, administrative orders, case law and other governing rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of the City’s and the Department’s policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of file and records management.
- Knowledge of inventory control.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of modern automotive and equipment repairs.
- Skill in reading, understanding, interpreting and applying relevant city, county, state and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, regulations, administrative orders, case law and other governing rules and regulations.
- Skill in working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments.
- Skill in identifying problems.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, other City employees, representatives from other city, county, state and/or Federal agencies, general public and/or others having business with the City of Gillette.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software and operating systems/applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in a garage, stockroom, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to possession of a high school diploma or GED.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position; one year of relevant vehicle service, maintenance and/or repair is preferred.
- Possession of or obtain within three (3) months of employment and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the State of Wyoming.
