Tetra Tech’s commitment to hiring the best talent in the industry and helping them thrive professionally is stronger than ever. We are currently seeking a full-time Fluvial Geomorphologist (Entry-level) with opportunity to work overtime for our Appleton, WI location.


The qualified candidate will have up to 1-year professional experience and a completed Master’s Thesis. Experience in Upper Midwest and/or Northwest United States Geomorphology, glacial geology, hydrology/water resources are a plus.


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field work tasks as needed.
  • GPS technician, soil sampling, sediment sampling, site remediation, work on boats, geohazard assessments, and wetland delineations.
  • Office work includes GIS mapping and table production, tech memo preparation and report writing.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Geography/Geology with an emphasis on Fluvial Geomorphology.
  • Midwest U.S. focus is a plus.
  • Less than 1-year professional experience.
  • Experience with ArcGIS. Ability to create, edit, and work with ArcGIS from topographic survey points and LiDAR DEM or point cloud data sets.
  • Physical outdoor work is required.
  • Field work includes investigations on hazardous waste sites, geomorphic surface mapping, wetlands, pipeline corridors, stream restorations, work on boats, solar sites, other environmental sites, and hiking up to 3 miles per day.
  • Able and willing to travel for assignments, including multi-day field work assignments across the U.S.
  • Travel could include up to 40% of time in first 3 years of employment and less in subsequent years.
  • Team focus and ability to compromise.
  • Willingness to take on any task assigned, good work ethic.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Other Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in the preparation of sampling plans, technical memoranda, figures, and reports.
  • Good writing skills and some experience producing quality technical reports.
  • Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to simultaneously handle multiple tasks and project responsibilities.
  • Responsible, equally suited to working independently or in a team environment involving a suite of professionals with expertise in biology, ecology, engineering, chemistry, and geomorphology.
  • Experience with soil horizon descriptions using hand texturing.
  • General knowledge of hydrology techniques and practices.
  • General working knowledge of land survey techniques preferred, including use of RTK-GPS and Total Station equipment, as well as software such as Trimble Business Center.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Has ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 35 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
  • Performs manual labor including excavation with shovels.
  • Availability to work extended field rotations (sometimes 10-12 days at a time).
