The Executive Office of Public Affairs and Equity (OPAE) strives to advance health equity and develop communications and health promotion products that meet the needs of the communities we serve. We combine our services and expertise with other subject matter experts to carry out the agency’s mission creatively and effectively.
This position is in the agency’s Communications Office, and sits on the Creative Services team. This position plans and applies graphic design and data visualization to public health materials, partners with colleagues to create clear public health messages to various audiences, and serves as a consultant and trainer for staff. You’ll develop communication strategies within a public health context and work to ensure consistent, standardized processes are based on best practices so that programs can design and communicate their information in the most effective ways.
This position is responsible for the following:
- Providing visual communication and information design services supporting ongoing programs, services, and activities (graphic design; photography; visual elements for web, social media, and video formats; branding/visual identity standards.
- Working with programs, health educators, communicators, and Creative Services colleagues to produce materials that align with the agency’s brand, mission, and vision.
- Planning, creating, testing, editing, and finalizing materials and products in print and digital media.
- Designing and managing agency-branded templates for enterprise use.
- Leading client consultations, developing work plans and project proposals, and guiding design projects through completion.
- Recommending appropriate media and messaging for reaching target audiences.

Required Qualifications
Option 1: A Bachelor’s degree or higher in graphic design, data visualization, or visual communications; AND three (3) years of experience in the following:
- Extensive experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications to design professional visual communication materials.
- Experience managing and leading numerous projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to build collaborative partnerships.
- Ability to communicate effectively about complex or controversial problems to various audiences.
Option 2: Five years of experience in graphic design, data visualization, or visual communications, which includes the following:
- Extensive experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications to design professional visual communication materials.
- Experience managing and leading numerous projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to build collaborative partnerships.
- Ability to communicate effectively about complex or controversial problems to various audiences.
- Experience in public health and designing health promotion products.
- Professional experience in writing and editing.
- Bilingual
- Videography experience

This position is covered by a bargaining unit for which the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) is the exclusive representative.
