Summary of Position
Responsible for administering the Madison County Green Schools Program.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Administer the Madison County Green Schools Program- Assist in implementing the Resource Management Plan and further developing best management practices for schools.
- Act as a point of contact and provide training opportunities for teachers, school administrators, and school facility management personnel about sustainable concepts and practices.
- Prepare and deliver presentations on green school activities.
- Promote educational programs and resources by maintaining the website.
- Promote the Green Schools Program and the County’s environmental efforts.
- Assist with other County departments and other public entities on environmental efforts.
- Promote professional certifications and nationally recognized programs to teachers and schools, including but not limited, the LEEDs Green Classroom Professional or Project Learning Tree.
- Administer the environmental grant program for schools, including writing grant applications, assisting schools with the application process, present the grant applications to the Building & Zoning Committee, and administer the grant requirements upon awarding them.
- Provide information and assistance to schools applying for State and Federal grants.
- Prepare an annual budget, review and approve invoices, and ensure that projects remain on budget by tracking expenses throughout the year.
- Maintain program records, prepare project summaries, and provide monthly/annual reports to the Department Administrator as requested.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in education, environmental sciences, public administration, or a related field. Five (5) years’ experience in an environmental program with a focus on education or public outreach and a working knowledge of school district operations. A valid driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements
The employee may be required to walk or move up to 200 feet from primary desk. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Some specific vision abilities are required by this job.
