Housekeeper Job at The Haven at Sky Mountain
The primary purpose of the Housekeeping Aide job position is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our community and as may be directed by the Director of Housekeeping to assure that our community is maintained in a clean, safe and comfortable manner. The Housekeeping Aide is responsible for maintaining a clean working environment for all residents, families and staff and ensures all areas are safe. Laundry duties include, but are not limited to the residents and all departments requiring laundry needs in the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The employee must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position:
a) Vacuum, dust and spot clean all common areas, hallways and patios with special attention to the main entry area. Specific items to be checked are carpets, plants, pictures, railings, windows, light fixtures, doors, floorboards, bathrooms, patios or decks, ceilings, walls, drapes, shelves, refrigerators and any other areas that need attention. Deep clean apartments and the rest of the community as scheduled or needed.
b) Clean up spills on floors as soon as possible. Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc., in resident rooms, commons areas on a daily basis or as instructed. Clean windows/mirrors in resident rooms, commons areas, bathrooms, and entrance ways.
c) Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, finishing, disinfecting, etc. (Note*: Ensure appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties).
d) Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting. Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc. Remove dirt, dust, grease, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
e) Follow proper methods while utilizing and storing approved for use chemicals; maintain and organize update of MSDS sheets.
f) Report missing or improperly labeled containers of chemicals and unsafe, hazardous conditions to your Director or ED immediately.
g) Report all accidents/incidents to your Supervisor or Supervisor on Duty on the shift they occur
h) Provide a supply of clean, disinfected linens for use to the residents at all times. Keep residents’ clothing clean and washed in a manner, which will preserve color and fabric, and avoid contamination and spreading of bacteria.
i) Keep linens and clothing washed, dried, ironed, folded and stored in designate areas on a daily basis, as well as to keep laundry area and equipment clean.
j) Clean all community linen and residents’ personal clothing ensuring that items are washed/ironed at the correct temperatures according to the type of fabric and that all items are thoroughly cleansed and stain free. Label all residents’ clothing prior to washing and deliver the cleaned clothing to each resident room.
k) Make sure vacant apartments are clean and ready to show within 3 days of someone moving out. Always keep the apartments refreshed for tours until rented. Deep clean vacant apartments for new move-ins as well as the rest of the community or an assigned/needed basis.
l) Use and keep the vacuum and other housekeeping equipment in good working order. Fill out monthly vacuum inspection sheets.
m) Maintain work area, housekeeping carts, housekeeping equipment, storage closets and linen closets in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. Always inform your Director when supplies are low before they run out. Keep work areas free of hazardous objects such as protruding mop/broom handles, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc.
n) Report any damages to residents’ apartments or if noticing poor living conditions to your Director or Executive Director immediately.
o) Develop and maintain a good working relationship with housekeeping staff, as well as with other departments to assure that housekeeping can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
p) Ensure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are followed when performing housekeeping procedures. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials and/or hazardous wastes or chemicals.
q) Follow established hand-washing procedures. Follow established policies governing the use/disposal of personal protective equipment and disposal of infectious wastes. Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored before leaving for breaks, meals and at the end of the workday.
r) Make certain chemicals are kept in locked cabinets and closets and cleaning carts are locked when unattended. Follow proper techniques, including using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), when mixing chemicals, disinfectants and solutions used for cleaning. Refer to manufacturer’s instructions for mixing and required PPE.
s) Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner. Discard infectious wastes into appropriate containers. Report any change in behavior, physical or emotional change noticed in resident to your Director or Executive Director.
t) Treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect. Please note that you must knock before entering a resident’s room. Inform resident when it is necessary to move his or her personal possessions during cleaning procedures. Report allegations of resident abuse or neglect or misappropriation of resident property to your supervisor.
u) Must be able to understand and to follow written and verbal directions. Able to effectively communicate with staff members and residents through verbal and/or written means. Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties/projects within allotted time.
v) Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

x) Knowledge of emergency disaster procedures of community. Able to locate nearest exit, to understand and respond to written or oral instruction in case of emergency. Working knowledge and ability to comply with community policies and procedures for workplace safety. Sufficient mobility and strength to move freely through the building, to assure resident safety at all times and to assist, transfer or otherwise move residents of the community out of danger in case of emergency.
y) Demonstrate respect for co-workers and responds to needs of residents by complying with community policies on attendance, punctuality and dress code. Able to arrive and begin work on time and to report for duty as scheduled on all shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Attend all in-services, safety meetings, staff meetings and/or other meetings as called upon. Able to adjust work schedule according to the resident needs due to calendared events.
z) Adaptability and flexibility in dealing with challenging or emergency situations, and ability to remain calm when dealing with residents and their family members, with a positive and pleasant manner and kind tone of voice.
