Position Requirements:
The Housekeeper requires attention to detail and following procedures, efficient and hardworking, possess an ability & willingness to work harmoniously, possess the ability to seek out new methods/principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing housekeeping practices, possess patience, tact, cheerful disposition, ability to cope with the mental & emotional stress of the position relating to & working with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset & at times hostile people within the facility, must be able to follow oral & written instructions, ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action, ability to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner & be a minimum of 18 years of age, possessing a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Willing to work weekends, holidays, beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary or assigned. Prefer a minimum of 6 months of housekeeping experience.
Principle Accountabilities:
ü Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor.
ü Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor on the shift in which they occur.
ü Report supply needs, needed repairs, found articles, along with concerns or grievances to supervisor.
ü Follow all established safety precautions governing the use and disposal of personal protective equipment and infectious waste material.
ü Follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixture of cleaning compounds, liquids, cleaning instructions, ect.
ü Follow written/oral and/or training instructions on housekeeping duties, procedures and services.
ü Follow all established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment/supplies.
ü Assure work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
ü Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services and other departments when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living areas and/or recreational areas.
ü Assure assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner, free of hazardous objects such as protruding mop/broom handles, unnecessary equipment & supplies, all chemicals are stored safely at all times especially before leaving areas for breaks, meal times and end of the work day.
ü Assure established infection control and universal precaution practices are maintained.
ü Assure equipment is cleaned/properly stocked and stored at the end of the shift.
ü Assure adequate supply of housekeeping supplies to perform daily tasks are maintained in utility/janitorial closets.
ü Coordinate/perform routine/terminal isolation cleaning procedures.
ü Operates various mechanized cleaning equipment, such as vacuums & carpet cleaners in a safe manner
Secondary Accountabilities:
Additional duties as assigned.
Education and Schedule:
Will be required to attend all department/staff and educational meetings provided & complete all mandatory in-services in a timely fashion (on or before deadlines). Participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed. Training will be provided for any new procedures or policies that are adopted, including the use of the computers and software that the New Richland Care Center uses for resident record keeping.
Schedules are based on the census of residents which may fluctuate up or down, there are no guaranteed fixed number of hours a pay period nor a fixed schedule. Schedules are subject to change for the well-being of the residents and the efficient operation of the facility. It is the employee’s responsibility to check the schedule for changes.
Physical Requirements: (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
In this position you may be exposed to heat/cold temperatures, falls, odors, reactions from dust & disinfectants throughout the facility, may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, ect., including exposure to AIDS & Hepatitis B Virus, I understand that should my job position be modified to include tasks that could result in exposure to blood/body fluids, I will be offered free of charge the Hepatitis B vaccination. Physical demands include bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, squatting, kneeling, climbing heights with the use of a step stool and/or ladder, lifting up to 25 lbs., standing for long periods of time, walking and a good sense of balance, use of hands for repetitive action of both hands, simple and firm grasping, sight & hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Ability to work around moving machinery.
