World Relief Quad Cities (WRQC) seeks an Immigration Legal Services (ILS) Assistant to help Afghan humanitarian parolees with intakes, education, referrals and outreach related to their asylum case, Special Immigration Visa case, and family reunification process. This position works closely with the Immigration Director and the ILS Coordinator and provides support to the department.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate intakes of new Afghan clients and determine their ILS needs
  • Assist Immigration Director with ILS
  • Schedule client appointments and administer reminder phone calls when needed
  • Follow up on all USCIS requests
  • Make referrals to external partners for asylum filing assistance
  • Coordinate TPS workshops
  • Facilitate I-693 appointments after a green card consultation
  • Coordinate transportation to immigration-related appointments in Chicago and Des Moines with assistance from WRQC volunteers as needed
  • Communicate with the World Relief Home Office and clients to assist with family reunification
  • Attend all trainings and conference calls as required by funders or as assigned
  • Create events and/or make presentations for education and outreach in the QC area
  • Attend conferences/events to advertise ILS services; Plan and facilitate workshops
  • Ensure interpretation services are provided for all immigration appointments

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong inter-personal and cross-cultural communication skills exercised through previous cross-cultural experience
  • Committed to welcome the immigrant community, the general public, and other staff to World Relief
  • Highly organized and a willingness to multitask
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Demonstrated skills working in a team environment
  • Fluency in English and one other language such as Pashto & Dari is preferred
  • Ability to build relationships with church partners in diverse cultural environments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations
  • The ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-15 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

  • Great lengths of time working on computer, reading from computer screen, entering information, standing at copier or fax machine, and some time on the phone or in skype meetings may be required.
