Position Summary
Distillation Technician processes all material through the tank farm and process areas complying with all OSHA and DHEC requirements, while maximizing production and minimizing expenses. This employee also assists in the loading and unloading of liquids to outbound customers as well as alternate storage and manages the maintenance and upkeep of alternate storage areas.
Primary Responsibilities
Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Ensures the Environment, Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, procedures and always acting in a safe manner.
• Work towards the achievement of KilnDirect goals and promoting a KilnDirect team environment.
• Assist Distillation Leader to ensure required inspections of distillation are accomplished.
• Assist in managing all operations pertaining to distillation including boiler operations, distillation, etc.
• Assist in managing the boiler room and all operations pertaining to the boilers.
• Identify ways to maximize production, while minimizing costs through motivation, innovation, and increased efficiency.
• Operate heavy equipment such as but not limited to; Forklift, various Man-lifts, Tractor Truck (onsite non-CDL) with attachments such as roll-off, tractor trailers, etc.
• Perform other work-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the KilnDirect Management.

Specific Duties

• Get clear instruction and goals from KilnDirect Distillation Leader.
• Work closely with KilnDirect dispatcher to determine the disposition of all inbound distillation material, as well as the scheduling of all outbound tanker loads on roll off boxes associated with KilnDirect Distillation.
• Assist in maintaining daily inventory of all material and equipment associated with KilnDirect Distillation.
• Ensure cleanliness of all grounds around the distillation area.
• Ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
• Load and unload tankers going to/from the tank farm.
• Assist in managing the solvent recovery operation in accordance with the SOP.
• Distill and separate chemicals from the reactor.
• Assist in maintaining boiler house, boiler(s) and oversee boiler operation.
• Ensure samples of inbound/outbound loads are provided to the lab prior to material being offloaded at KD or being released for outbound shipment.
• Ensure containment area in tank farm is free of rainwater.
• Assist KD Distillation to inspect tank farm weekly in accordance with SOP and document.
• Assist KD Distillation to inspect solvent storage and recovery areas daily in accordance with SOP and document.
• Ensure tank farm and retention areas are kept clean.
• Clean tankers as needed.
• Heat tankers roll offs and/or boxes as needed.
• Ensure private contractors complete contracted tasks to KD standards.
• Advise Maintenance, as well as the Distillation Leader, of equipment malfunctions and required maintenance.
• Operate heavy equipment such as but not limited to; Forklift, various man-lifts, Tractor Truck (onsite non-CDL) with attachments such as roll-off, tractor trailers, etc.
• Ensure all mobile equipment used is thoroughly inspected and properly serviced daily.
• Advise KD Distillation Leader of required equipment and supply purchases necessary for continued KD Distillation operations.
• Report to KD Distillation Leader throughout the day on production and equipment issues.
• Provide KD Distillation Leader with Daily status reports on production and equipment status.
• Unload and load containerized non-hazardous waste and/or products from transportation vehicles.
• Pump or otherwise remove waste and/or products from containers.

Qualifications

• Good communication skills.
• Must possess legible handwriting skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and communicate appropriate information as necessary to effectively perform job duties.
• Ability to operate computers including Excel and Word programs.
• Willing to work flexible hours if required.
• Physical Requirements.
• Able to perform general office skills.
• Required Standing, walking, carrying, stooping, crouching, sitting, grasping, and reaching.
• May require lifting, pulling and/or pushing up to 50 lbs.
