Position Summary
The La Vida Dominican Student & Summer Bridge Program Coordinator reports to the La Vida Dominican Project Manager, and works closely with Dominican faculty, staff, and students, and the Center for Community Engagement and Partnerships to advance various initiatives and projects for the La Vida Dominican program. Those include forging relationships with the community that encourage underserved high school and community college student enrollment, presenting information to students and parents regarding higher education options, and creating and leading programs on campus that support student persistence and success. The Coordinator will play a key role in recruitment and retention of Latinx and low-income students while maintaining regular interactions with students in the La Vida Dominican program. The Coordinator will also be responsible for developing and coordinating the La Vida Dominican Summer Bridge Program and year-long programs and activities that support the Dominican Experience and student engagement, persistence, and success.
Responsibilities
- Support the La Vida Dominican Project Director with activities and services
- Develop relationships with community organizations and school districts and create and offer presentations to students and parents regarding higher education options
- Gather input from community members that inform program and project development, this includes assessment and adaptation of programming based on community members feedback.
- Develop curriculum for student support programs (i.e.; Latinx student orientation & summer bridge program) grounded in student development theory and best practices that promote student engagement and persistence
- Careful tracking and documentation of progress toward project goals
- Identify and establish a parent/family communication model that supports effective parent communications
- Develop and facilitate student-facing programs in conjunction with others in Academic Affairs and Student Affairs/Enrollment Management for the summer bridge program; occasional evening/weekend work required
- Serves as a resource for Latinx and low-income students during their time at Dominican
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- 1-3 years of experience in community organizing, community-engaged research
- 1-3 years of experience in admissions or student affairs at a college level or related experience
- Familiarity with basic student affairs theory and experience with organizing SA-type programs
- Experience in developing and implementing programs for students that foster engagement and support student persistence
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Experience working with Latinx community organizations
- Experience with community and parent engagement
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple demands, meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience working with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to learn new processes with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree
- Familiarity with campus processes, protocols, and procedures
- Familiarity with transfer and registration processes
- Demonstrated knowledge of key approaches in community engagement, student success, and more
- Experience working in student cultural centers or working directly with programs/services that support Latinx students (i.e.; MEChA programs)
- Experience in community advocacy
