Laboratory Technical Supervisor - Sacramento Job at PMDLAB LLC
General Description:
Under the direct supervision of the leadership, The technical supervisor provides support on assay development, test menu expansion, instrument optimization and staff training on new workflows. Experience in Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology and Urinalysis is expected. Responsible for monitoring quality control values to ensure quality of test results and reporting in a timely manner. Also provides troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and methodologies, and interaction with personnel from the manufacturer regarding technical assistance.
Responsibilities:
- Provides technical training in all areas of responsibility.
- Confirms abnormal results and calls the facility to obtain clinical information on patients with “rare and improbable” test results.
- Maintains the Technical Procedure Manuals, with periodic updates.
- Reviews all technical procedures prior to presentation to lab manager for approval.
- Ensures that QC is within appropriate limits and that all test results are accurate for Chemistry, Hematology, Molecular and Urinalysis testing.
- Performs assessment of the efficiency of the utilization of all resources in areas of Responsibility, including personnel management, equipment/reagent responsibility, Including personnel management, equipment/reagent evaluation and method development.
- Works with vendors to bring new analyzers and methods on-line.
- Completes technical competency assessments for laboratory staff.
- Maintains the performance and recording of all quality assurance systems required to Maintain precision and accuracy, including proficiency testing.
- Maintains the laboratory and implements new procedures as needed to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. (OSHA, CLIA).
- Schedules and maintains complete coverage of all shifts in the laboratory.
- Performs assessment of the operation of all instruments in areas of responsibility and assigns maintenance procedures or repairs as needed.
- Maintains all documentation required by regulatory agencies, including quality control, Maintenance and service records, and all documentation required for general operation of the laboratory.
- Ensures QC for all tests in department and monitors QC reports/data.
- Reports any issues to the Lab Manager or leadership.
- Assigns priority and performs bench work in the laboratory, as needed.
- Ensures the maintenance of a safe and clean work environment according to OSHA and CLIA regulations.
- Troubleshoots problems (client, instrument, and computer) as needed.
- Identifies and pursues self-improvement needs.
- Seeks coaching/mentoring when appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, policies, and procedures Including, but not limited to, those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, HIPAA, State and CLIA.
- Provides leadership and support for the Compliance process within management area
- Promotes adherence to applicable legal requirements, standards, policies, and procedures as specified within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, HIPAA, State and CLIA in management area.
- Distributes compliance-related materials within management area.
- Ensures timely and accurate reporting and responses to compliance-related issues and monitors the implementation of corrective action plans related to such issues.
- Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance to the Lab Director.
- Ensures that staff participates in orientation and training programs including, but not Limited to, all required compliance and HIPAA courses and relevant policies and Procedures, and that such training is properly documented.
- Provides open lines of communication regarding compliance issues within management Area and ensures that retaliation against staff who report suspected incidences of non-compliance does not occur.
- Participates in monitoring and auditing activities and investigations, and implementing Quality improvement processes, as required.
- Completes performance reviews and determines compensation and promotions based on the accomplishment of established standards that promote adherence to compliance and Quality standards.
- Participates in required orientation, Compliance and HIPAA training programs.
- Prepares QA, QC, and compliance reports, as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required; MT (ASCP or equivalent) preferred.
- Four years progressively responsible laboratory experience.
- Must qualify under CLIA regulations as a technical supervisor.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong planning and organization skills.
- Demonstrates understanding of healthcare staffing dynamics.
- Applies sound business judgment in decision making.
- Demonstrates critical analysis and complex critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrates ability to manage highly confidential and proprietary information.
- Proficient in computer skills that include spreadsheets, presentations and word Processing software, and Microsoft Office required.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift from floor to waist up to twenty-five pounds.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
- Must be able to give and receive verbal and written instructions.
- Must possess the ability to utilize visual and auditory senses to complete all job duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work in a typical office and healthcare environment.
