Purposes of this Position: This position will operate within a licensed and regulated facility as established by the Tribe that will focus on safety, well-being, curriculum, and provide a routine environment for young children to thrive. Our Center implements a dynamic, play-based curriculum that incorporates artistic and practical activities into the daily schedule.
Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for following all licensing regulations, policies and procedures, and any other educational requirements as applicable.
  • Teaches children through individual and small group activities.
  • Plans and implements curriculum for assigned classroom and posts weekly lesson plans.
  • Facilitates learning and development of each child using an appropriate, program approved, and in collaboration with parent/guardian individualized learning plan.
  • Regularly performs ongoing assessment of each childs development throughout the year and meets with Parents/Guardians to discuss.
  • Responsible for recognizing signs of early disabling conditions (exceptional needs) and following special education procedures to implement and meet any identified needs.
  • Meets the individual needs and interests of children in relation to their cultural, social, and economic background.
  • Responsible for observation and accurately updating childrens records including but not limited to attendance, daily logs, curriculum, child observations, and parent participation.
  • Communicates with classroom parents/guardians regarding Center activities and child development information through parent bulletin boards, etc. and/or Center/Classroom calendars.
  • Provides input and assists with implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for all teachers.
  • Under the direction of the Director, trains, supervises, and evaluates teacher(s) and aide(s) working in the classroom.
  • Conducts regular classroom observation and supervision sessions with assigned staff and facilitates team teaching and planning.
  • Maintains list of needed education supplies and materials and assists the Director with ordering as needed.
  • Ensures that required records are kept, complete and filed appropriately.
  • Provides a pleasant, safe, and clean environment for children and staff.
  • Works as a team member with other teaching staff in planning and implementing classroom activities.
  • Takes responsibility for staying informed of future changes to position qualification requirements and maintains a current professional development plan with assistance from supervising staff to prepare for upcoming position qualification requirements changes.
  • Attends scheduled meetings, trainings, and conferences as necessary.
  • Participates in regular reflective supervision sessions and self-assessment to promote ongoing professional development.
  • Occasional interaction and contact with outside agencies, vendors, funders, volunteers, donors, and contributors.
  • Informs Supervisor of all concerns, observations, or information provided by a parent or guardian in a timely manner.
  • Aligns work behaviors in conformance with Generations Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Facilitates and participates in fire and earthquake drills.
  • Acts as the Substitute Site Director as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 12 core semester units of early childhood education/child development 3 semester units related to infant care.
  • Preschool or Infant teaching experience of 4 years.
  • 3 semester units in Administration or Staff relations.* OR*
  • Associate degree in child development.
  • Preschool or Infant teaching experience of 2 years.
  • 3 units in Administration. OR
  • Bachelors degree in child development.
  • Preschool or Infant teaching experience of 1 year.
  • 3 units in Administration.
  • Prior experience working with children with special needs is preferred.
  • Holds and maintains a current Child Development Teacher permit or higher.
  • Holds and maintains a current Child Site Supervisor Permit or Program Director Permit
  • Minimum of 15 hours of Child Health and Safety Training and maintains a current Infant and Child CPR First Aid certification or completes these requirements within 3 months of being hired.
  • Pre-employment and periodic health screenings and a T.B. test are required, the results of which must be within acceptable ranges to attain and maintain employment.
  • Complies with regulatory immunization requirements.
  • Possession of a valid California Drivers License and access to an insured vehicle is required

  • Prior experience and a demonstrated ability to motivate, engage with and work effectively and professionally with parents and other adults as well as with children from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Flexible and able to meet the changing needs of the program.
  • Able to travel to attend conferences and scheduled in-service trainings throughout the year.
  • Ability to work flexible hours for scheduled weekend or evening activities as needed.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Able to travel during the day and/or night, sometimes long distance.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
  • Effective organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Regularly uses computers and computer printers, telephones, and other similar electronic office equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to listen well and communicate clearly.
  • Prolonged sitting and ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, use manual and automatic office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Able to stand, bend, reach down and stretch overhead, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds unassisted and may occasionally move and lift heaver materials with assistance using ergonomic guidelines.
  • May lift and/or hold infants and occasionally children up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May use kitchen equipment and implements that can be heavy, hot, or sharp as well as cleaning and sanitizing products.
  • Able to handle an environment that can be noisy and includes the comings and goings of small children and their families.
