What You'll Be Doing

If you are a Youth Services Librarian passionate about serving the community, this is the job for you! Wake County Public Libraries is hiring a part time Youth Services Librarian, temporary*, to work on the Bookmobile. The Bookmobile is the preliteracy and awareness vehicle for WCPL's Every Family Ready to Achieve (EFRA) initiative. EFRA offers opportunities for families in Wake County to achieve their greatest potential through access to library books, programs and services.
What will you do on the Bookmobile?
Plan and present programs for preschool children
Prepare the truck for travel throughout the day
Drive the truck to and from service locations (valid NC Driver License and clean driving record required)
Work directly with children and their caregivers to provide customer service, including readers advisory
Promote WCPL programs and services happening at all WCPL locations
Work with Library Assistants assigned to support Bookmobile programming
The Bookmobile Librarian will work 18 hours per week: Mon, Wed, Thu 9:00-1:00; Tue 9:00-3:00; may require occasional nights and weekends for special events

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
No specific experience required
Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Coursework in Youth Services
Demonstrates energy and motivation
Spanish language

Skilled at presenting programs to young children
Excels at providing customer service skills
Possesses excellent communication and technology skills
Maintains a knowledge of library trends in Youth Services and Bookmobile service
Possesses the ability to build and maintain positive and productive working relationships

Employment Type: Temporary
Work Schedule: Mon - Thu - between 9:00am - 3:00pm - 18 hrs. per week
Hiring Range: $20.81 - $28.10
