GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
An employee in this classification assists the public under the supervision of an Assistant Branch Librarian or Library Aide II.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
This position will work with all functions of the circulation and cataloging software, answering telephone inquiries, processing library materials, counting and preparing library money deposits, dealing tactfully and courteously with the public, and establish effective working conditions with fellow employees. The Library Aide I will manage the circulation department in absence of the Library Aide II. Ability to train and supervise the work of others under the guidance and direction of their supervisor and perform related duties as assigned. The schedule for this position will include working two evenings per week until 9:15 p. m. and two Saturdays and one Sunday per month.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT TIME OF APPLICATION
By the closing date of this announcement, an applicant must:
- Be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien with the right to work in the United States; and
- Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent; and
- Have completed at least two years (60 semester credit hours) at an accredited college or university; and
- Have experience in the use of computers.

- In the event the number of qualified applicants exceeds 15, an evaluation of the 15 applicants with the most appropriate and responsible combination of experience and training will be invited to the Interview.

- Ability to perform excellent customer service
- Ability to adapt and improve methods and procedures used in performing assignments
- Ability to take direction and carry out instructions with accuracy and attention to detail
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to perform basic computer skills such as typing, emailing, and using wordprocessing documents
- Knowledge of library databases such as TLC’s Carl software
NOTE: At the time of appointment, applicants are required to pass a pre-employment medical examination conducted by a physician authorized by the City of Livonia.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this examination is to establish an eligible list to fill current, future, regular, and/or temporary vacancies.
