Concentric Methods is seeking a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to join our team in Bethesda, MD in support of the NIH.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit and screen patients for projects that focus on teens with major depressive disorder (and its common comorbid conditions); conduct structured and semi-structured interviews with probands, and parents of probands; provide clinical support to patients and families throughout the time that they are in screening and participating in research protocols
- Provide structured psychotherapy in the form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), family intervention or other specific evidence-based psychological treatments to patients who present with mood and comorbid disorders
- Administer and interpret clinical assessments to probands and family members as part of research protocols
- Provide family support and crisis management services as needed
- Provide referral to appropriate NIH resources and community services, when indicated
- Participate in the planning and execution of clinical research in the capacity of staff clinician
- Administer and score a wide range of complex structured and semi-structured interviews (such as SCID, the K-SADS and many others) to adolescent participants and the parents of these participants; administer standard rating scales to teens and their parents
- Conduct screening/baseline evaluations in collaboration with staff
- Conduct preliminary evaluation of potential probands through review of on-line diagnostic screening tools such as the Development and Well-Being Assessment (DAWBA) and other measures, telephone interviewing of parent related to critical salient concerns prior to face-to-face assessments, review of medical records, consultation with treating professionals, and consultation with NIMH medical staff, leading to acceptance for on-site evaluation or rejection with referral if indicated
- Interface with schools or parent groups on recruitment projects; meet with school personnel and staff on a regular basis during recruitment periods to educate school staff on major depression and information on research participation
- Provide informational sessions to parent groups, students, teachers and counselors
- Facilitate research with forms of psychotherapy in a therapeutic setting; contribute to processes for evaluating efficacy of psychotherapy
- Conduct routine assessments to monitor the participants’ progress and the effectiveness of therapy
- Participate in research group meetings and in decision making about patient inclusion in the studies, patient and parent diagnosis, and patient and family management throughout participation in the research protocol
- Make recommendations for appropriate referrals, including Child Protective Services, psychotherapy, community services involvement, special education, or activity programs
- Document research and clinical findings
- Participate in collection and storage (and where appropriate, analysis) of data regarding psychological function and the life course of illness in patients as ascertained by testing and interviews with proband and family members
Job Requirements:
- MSW plus board certification as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience delivering care in the clinical social work field
- Training and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in conducting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Interpersonal Psychology with adults, adolescents and children
- Exemplary diagnostic and clinical skills and proficiency in the application of DSM-IV diagnoses
- Sound professional judgment and knowledge to assess and manage complex and severe psychiatric illness in youth and their families
- Ability to ascertain descriptive clinical data systematically and reliably, and to communicate it clearly and accurately both orally and in written form
- Understanding of and sound working relationships with local agencies and community resources
- Knowledge of agencies outside the NIH community and consistent independent initiative in utilizing and discovering new resources necessary for the accomplishment of the recruitment and screening tasks
- Ability to utilize a highly developed working knowledge of clinical psychology and allied sciences and disciplines, such as child, adolescent and adult psychiatry, psychopathology and neuropsychopharmacology to conduct research
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
