POSITION: Gerrish Swim & Tennis Club, a member only recreational club located in the foothills of Pasadena, California near Eaton Canyon, is seeking a Lifeguards to assist the Aquatics

Director and Supervisors with club operations, maintenance and club programs. This is a part- time seasonal position April – October, including support when available before opening for club preparations and month after closing for club winterization.

Gerrish Swim & Tennis Club members take full advantage of the excellent facilities and beautiful

San Gabriel Mountains backdrop as we host a number of special poolside events throughout the season. We pride ourselves on providing experiences for the entire family, whether its s’mores by the fire pit or movies in the pool. Facilities include a heated 25-yard, four-lane Competition pool, Teaching pool, Play pool and two spas. The Competition pool features the only amusement water slides in San Gabriel Valley. The Club is also home to a play court that includes basketball and pickle ball courts as well a dedicated Tennis Court. The Gerrish Grill is also a Club favorite.

Summer programs include camp, swim lessons, swim team and special events.

The seasonal staff is comprised of lifeguards, plus staff for Gerrish Grill, swim instructors and coaches, parking lot attendants, day camp and front office concierges. All staff will have the enthusiasm for making the facility a safe and fun place for the entire Club community.

Club Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 1:00pm – 9:00pm (Spring & Fall), 10:00 am – 10:00 pm Tues. –

Sat., 11:00am – 10:00pm Sundays (Summer) | Shift hours will vary ~ Must be available to work

Holidays | (especially) Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Director and

Supervisor and Head Guards, Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring a safe and pleasant environment at the Club facilities. Examples of duties include:

  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
  • Emergency response to water and non-water emergencies in the pool area and provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Work with others to prevent accidents and enforcing pool rules and regulations.
  • High level of professionalism and service that aligns with the values, philosophies and standards of the Club.
  • Remain alert to all surroundings and keep a professional posture at all times.
  • Open and close pool facility by accurate procedures.
  • Enforce Club policies governing safety and excellent quality service.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and monthly lifeguard in-service trainings lead by the

Supervisors and Aquatics Director.

  • Perform pool and facilities maintenance as needed.
  • Assist with swim lesson instruction and summer day camp when needed.
  • Help set-up and breakdown furniture & equipment for meets, parties, and other events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director and Supervisor
  • Adhere to all Club policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. At least 16 years of age or older with some aquatics experience, preferably as a lifeguard.

2. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to co-workers and the public.

3. Develop and maintain positive work relationships and excellent customer service program.

4. Availability to work evenings, weekends, or holidays when needed.

5. American Red Cross Lifeguard CPR, & First Aid Certification or equivalent. (required)

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS: It is necessary to have the ability to solve practical problems that may arise. Our staff members must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to speak English is necessary to converse with our members, guests and other staff members. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, members and the general public is important.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Staff Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the Staff Member work will involve the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which normally do not exceed fifty pounds.
