Perry Nuclear Power Plant has an opening in Electrical Maintenance. This position is represented by U.W.U.A. Local 270

Jr Maintenance Electrician (Grade 13)

Duties

Under close supervision, assists employees of higher classifications; as a learner in training does mechanical and electrical repair work on Nuclear Plant equipment and related systems. Is responsible for performing work on turbines, condensers, nuclear reactors and auxiliary equipment, sheet metal pipe fitting, basic machine shop work, rigging and electrical repair of plant equipment of progressively increasing importance and skill until he acquires experience and becomes qualified to perform this work under directive supervision; performs duties such as:

  • Performing cleaning, scraping, brushing, preserving and conditioning of parts, equipment and structure; performing building maintenance; assisting in the assembly, disassembly, repair, replacement and installation of the turbine, reactor vessel, condenser, plant auxiliary equipment and electrical equipment;
  • Performing oxyacetylene cutting; performing simple non certified welding, tacking, brazing and soldering;
  • Performing ordinary layout, cutting and assembly of sheet metal;
  • Performing simple layout work on piping and components;
  • Maintaining small motors; disassembling, inspecting, cleaning, painting windings, fittings, brushes, assembling, maintaining electrical hand tools and extension cords; making minor repairs to plant wiring and replacing lighting switches and sockets as directed;
  • Operating portable tools; operating ordinary shop tools on material requiring low tolerances; salvaging materials or parts; performing drilling, grinding, cutting, shearing, filing, bending, forming, chipping and scraping operations;
  • Operating all assigned equipment in a responsible, safe manner;
  • Operating ordinary electrical test equipment;
  • Assisting in the installation and assembly of electrical apparatus switchboard components, switch gear, conduit, panel board equipment and pulling in wire and control cable and connecting to terminal blocks as directed
  • Carrying tools, rigging and materials; assisting in setting up rigging, tackle, chocking, shoring and scaffolds;
  • Dismantling, cleaning and painting of equipment; performing routine oiling and greasing;
  • Unloading or directing the unloading of materials received at the plant;
  • Recording data and maintaining maintenance records as assigned;
  • Inspecting materials received for shipping damage and conformity to drawings or specifications.
  • Performing any task necessary for continuity or restoration of service in an emergency;
  • Carrying out assignments in fire watch duties and first aid;


Qualifications

Must meet the Company’s requirements as to General Qualifications; must meet all the qualifications of Mechanic Assistant and meet the necessary requirements associated with the plant training programs, in addition:

  • Must have at least two years of experience equivalent to the Mechanic Assistant position; and must have successfully completed the assigned Qualification Cards and training for the position;
  • Must be able to understand and carry out instructions; and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be capable of achieving and maintaining the qualifications necessary to perform their assigned duties. This includes satisfactory completion of all assigned courses, Qualification Cards and training for the position;
  • Must have a working knowledge of;
    • Company and plant procedures, instructions, and administrative policies;
    • The rules and safety practices of the Company applicable to the work;
    • The effective, safe use and care of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the work being performed; and
    • The location and layout of equipment in the Plant, site, and grounds.
  • Must have a cooperative temperament, be able to work cooperatively with employees with whom the work must be coordinated to complete work assignments within prescribed time limits;
  • Must complete training and qualifications to proceed in line of progression, whether mechanical or electrical.
  • Must have knowledge and the ability to follow the Safety and Security practices, policies and procedures associated with the plant and equipment.
  • Must be able to prepare all applicable documentation as required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to the protected area of the plant.
  • Must reside with a 45 minute response time to the plant.
  • This position requires a recommended result from Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Power Plant Maintenance and Plant Operations Selection System (MASS/POSS) and satisfactory completion of any other aptitude testing requested by the Company.


GENERAL NUCLEAR ELECTRICIAN
(Grade 16)

Duties

Under general directive supervision, does skilled repair work on nuclear plant equipment; works with and directs in their duties up to three (3) other employees; and performs such duties as:

  • Assembling, disassembling, installing, repairing, testing, inspecting, lubrication and rebuilding plant electrical components;
  • Investigating, diagnosing and locating cause of trouble; making necessary repairs, replacements and adjustments;
  • Inspecting, diagnosing, disassembling, repairing, rebuilding, making or replacing defective parts, assembling, calibrating, resetting, testing, and putting into service timing devices and control relays;
  • Maintaining, overhauling and repairing motor operated valve actuators;
  • Performing basic mechanical maintenance work;
  • Setting up and removing rigging, tackle, blocking, shoring and scaffolds and operating overhead and mobile cranes;
  • Recording data and maintaining maintenance records as assigned; initiating and routing of work permits;
  • Performing post maintenance tests;
  • Instructing, training, evaluating and working with other employee’s as assigned;
  • Performing any task necessary for continuity or restoration of plant operations in an emergency;
  • Conducting work so that employees under their direction are safeguarded at all times;
  • Performing the duties of Junior Maintenance Electrician and other similar or less skilled work;
  • Planning, laying out, directing and inspecting maintenance work for employees assigned to them;
  • Performing work preparation activities such as; reviewing work plans, providing duration estimates, dose reduction suggestions;
  • Interfacing with organizations to resolve problems;
  • Identifying plant deficiencies and other unacceptable conditions by submitting documentation per plant procedures;
  • Performing duties as a member of the Emergency Plan, including maintaining the necessary qualifications.


Qualifications

Must meet the company’s requirements as to general qualifications; must have all the qualifications of a Junior Maintenance Electrician and meet the necessary requirements associated with the plant training programs, in addition;

  • Must have at least two (2) years experience/education equivalent to a Junior Maintenance Electrician;
  • Must have successfully completed and demonstrated the performance of all the duties of a General Nuclear Electrician, based on company qualification process;
  • Must have practical knowledge of the plant layout and of the mechanical and electrical equipment in the plant;
  • Must perform work from drawings, sketches and blue prints;
  • Must have a working knowledge of the plant’s maintenance and quality control procedures and practices and of the records that must be completed and retained;
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the plant’s industrial safety and radiological control procedures and know how to use and read basic portable survey equipment;
  • Must have a practical knowledge of safety rigging and scaffolding methods and knowledge of the operation of plant cranes;
  • Must perform in a capacity requiring the receipt of and pass on orders and instructions to several people, assisting them in such a manner, as to maintain harmony, safety and cooperation;
  • Responsible for complying with and providing full documentation for written work directions in work documents and plant procedures;
  • Must complete training and qualifications to be considered for future promotion.
  • Must have knowledge and the ability to follow the Safety and Security practices, policies and procedures associated with the plant and equipment.
