Pay Range: Starts at $12.00 per hour, depending on experience


Position Summary:

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Program Director, the Makerspace Specialist is responsible for the supervision of all youth, teen, and program participants in the Makerspace area. S/he will interact with program participants of all ages in a variety of activities and act as a role model.


Essential Functions:

  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Ensure safe and risk free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the participants
  • Act as a role model, exhibit good judgment and have a strong awareness of safety; know and understand all emergency procedures
  • Be responsible for solving problems in a positive manner and operate in a busy atmosphere
  • Interact with program participants and build relationships while supervising the Makerspace
  • Develop, implement and facilitate youth and teen specific computer training
  • Provide constructive activities that build assets for youth and teens while in the Makerspace
  • Keep order, maintain and enforce policies in the Makerspace
  • Oversee work of program participants on computers and in Makerspace to ensure electronic communication policies are followed
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience working with/teaching youth in the area of technology and computers preferred


Certifications Required:

  • Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
  • Within 30 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/AED
