Product Owner - Refrigeration

Oak Ridge, TN/ Full-time (Remote - East Coast Working Hours)

The product owner is a visionary who can envision the final product and communicate that vision. However, the product owner is also a doer who sees the vision through to completion. This includes describing requirements, closely collaborating with the team, accepting or rejecting work results, and steering the project by tracking and forecasting its progress. As an entrepreneur, the product owner facilitates creativity; encourages innovation; and is comfortable with change, ambiguity, debate, conflict, playfulness, experimentation, and informed risk taking.

The product owner will be accountable for the BU’s T/O and profit for their responsible business field/category in regards to deriving products from consumers’ pain & gain points as well as their shopping behavior. Based on the analysis of the trends the product owner will define the future roadmap requirement and drive the globally aligned roadmap to successful launch in assistance with the BU head. They would be responsible for steering the development of the product to ensure metrics like cost, quality and timeline are met. The project manager will be the co-pilot in this effort.

As the individual responsible for the product’s success, the product owner provides guidance and direction for everyone involved in the development effort and ensures that tough decisions are made. For instance, should the launch date be postponed or should less functionality be delivered? At the same time, the product owner must be a team player who relies on close collaboration with the other Scrum team members, yet has no formal authority over them.

The product owner will be managing a smaller category in terms of revenues and will have the assistance of senior role or the BU head in terms of delivering on KPIs for business success and definition of the vision.

Your responsibilities

Vision and Strategy Definition
  • Be the consumer champion: Help initiate and implement market research (e.g. ethnographic studies, qualitative, quantitative, etc.) to implement product projects in partnership with Consumer Insights Manager
  • Partner with the Innovation Manager in assisting to define what consumer insights drive vision and strategy using a variety of different tools and methodologies
  • Within smaller sized categories; analyze, compile and define market requirements concerning trends, consumers, competitors, distribution based on regional consumer journey framework / supported by regional experts
  • Derive user stories and core user experiences from the insights. Translate the user stories to feature set
  • Accountable for defining the product strategy along with other stakeholders from development, operations management, design, brand, etc.

Roadmap Development
  • Accountable for the regional product roadmap, achieving synergies on global level in alignment with product family, setting implementation timeline along with the head of the BU
  • Implement roadmap by initiating product projects, take ownership for the Product Project/ Product Business Case
  • Within certain categories, compile all product-related consumer knowledge and translate into product requirements (with own consumer insight & user experience specialists)
  • Steer product development projects incl. driving and deciding project in terms of product requirements & specification
  • Partner with the Innovation Manager on the feature pre-development roadmap

Agile Program Management and Rollout
  • Within certain categories, operationalize product strategy; including product improvement, feature prioritization, costing, and release (feature roadmap program)
  • Setting deadlines and ensuring that projects remain on schedule and budget working with project management office (part of operation management)
  • Work closely with project sponsor, cross-functional teams, and assigned project managers to plan and develop scope, deliverables, required resources, work plan, budget, and timing for new initiatives
  • Identify key requirements needed from cross-functional teams and external vendors
  • Develop and manage budget for projects and be accountable for delivering against established business goals/objectives
  • Analyze, evaluate, and overcome program risks, and produce program reports for management and stakeholders

Awareness of critical future capabilities based on strategic ambition and existing gaps, ability to close those gaps and set further trends

Excellent at decision making based on different resolution of available data

Strong collaboration/ communication skills in dealing with different stakeholders, sought-after networker & partner; ability to aligns different parties, including customers, users, development, operations, and management. The product manager is the voice of the customer, communicating customer needs and requirements and bridging the gap between different parts of the organization

Experience in using agile methods/ new ways of collaboration

Analytical, planning and negotiation skills

Ability to provide purpose, commitment and transparency as well as setting clear expectations

Travel required based on business needs; domestic and international

Four-Year College degree in business administration, marketing - required

Master's degree in business administration, marketing - preferred

Travel - 30%

The pay range posted for this position is based on the location noted in the posting title. Exact compensation offered may vary based on your specific skillset and work location. If the position is bonus or incentive eligible then the maximum payout potential is 200% of target with details laid out within the plan document.
