Pulse Medical Transportation, a growing and progressive ambulance and wheelchair van transportation provider, currently has an opening for the position of Call Taker for our office in Woodland Park, New Jersey. The Call Taker will be responsible for receiving telephone calls and faxes (transport requests) from facilities and/or patients. These transport requests will originate and terminate at residences and/or medical facilities. In addition, a Call Taker will make phone calls to update, inform, and facilitate the efficient pick-up of our patients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Receive and prioritizes all incoming telephone calls.
• Effectively triage all incoming requests for service
• Collect appropriate information regarding patient demographics and insurance types, and follow-up as necessary.

• Set priorities and complete work in a consistent manner.
• Follow up with patients on any insufficient documentation
• Properly assign/sequence codes in compliance with government and insurance regulations
• Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures using ICD (International Classification of Disease) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology)
• Coordinate with the team lead and the individuals assigned to the operation of accounts, encompassing charge entry, claims submitted, follow up with accident claims
• Follow up on medical records requests and unpaid claims

Knowledge & Skills:

• An understanding of how patients are transported by ambulance/wheelchair van, common issues which arise during transport, and functions of healthcare facilities, is preferred
• Maintain working knowledge of various tools including but not limited to: Call in-take systems (TraumaSoft), office equipment, and telecommunications systems
• Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, to convey information distinctly and concisely.
• Demonstrate an ability to listen and process information as it is spoken to you via telephone, or read and comprehend information as it is displayed on faxed request forms
• Knowledge of emergency transportation and medical terminology
• Ability to multi-task

Education/Licensing/Certification: High School diploma or GED required

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a telecommunications, transportation, medical office, or medical billing field required; One (1) year of experience in ambulance/wheelchair van communications preferred.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
