Position Title: MPS Subject Matter Expert
Division: Open Studies
Reports to: Director of Graduate Programming Administration
Subject Matter Expert
General purpose: MICA’s online Master of Professional Studies (MPS) programs are designed to provide aspiring professionals with specialized, industry-specific skills in a concentrated time frame. Due to the unique nature of these programs, curriculum must remain relevant and aligned with best practices in their respective industries. Consequently, MICA is seeking subject matter experts for the Business of Art and Design, Data Analytics and Visualization, Product Management, and UX Design programs. Subject matter experts will assist the college with ensuring that programming prepares students with current industry skills that meet the needs of professional landscapes and employers. The subject matter role is consultative and does not have any faculty managing duties or student facing responsibilities.
Summary of Essential Functions: This position reports to the Open Studies director of graduate program administration. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Periodically reviewing program courses, outcomes, and sequence in relationship to defined program outcomes and industry standards.
  • Providing research-based input on tools and software relevant to degree subject matter.
  • Regularly gauging students' feedback on program content and assessment of courses, outcomes, and sequence in response to student needs.
  • Regularly engaging (every quarter) the program industry advisory panel (a small group of experts with insight into professional fields associated with the curriculum) to review program goals and outcomes in order to assure that topics and instruction are current and aligned with industry best practices.
  • Work with program leadership to expand the MICA network within the field of study for the purpose of raising the program profile and building a reservoir of potential faculty, guests to the program, and establishing industry partners.
  • Reporting (via document preparation and sharing at faculty meetings) on program assessment, networking efforts, and recommendations for revisions and improvements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of programmatic industry focus. Research and analysis for the purpose of curriculum improvement. Ability to collaborate, meet deadlines, communicate to a range of stakeholders (students, faculty, administration).

Minimum qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Experience: 2+ years of professional experience related to or within the industry that the program curriculum is focused on and 1+ years teaching

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience related to or within the industry that the program curriculum is focused on and 2+ years teaching
