Qualifications:
- Ability to assist or lead a group of campers as a unit.
- Maturity and adaptability in all situations.
- Ability to work under supervision of acting Manager in cooperative efficient manner.
- Ability to handle camper behaviors.
- The following experience is helpful: Working with people who have special needs/developmental disabilities, camping, recreation.
- Trained or willing to train in CPR/ First Aid Certification and Food Handler's License.
- Knowledge of and ability to create group Music activities.
Camp New Hope is a year-round recreational experience for Special Needs individuals ages eight and above. Camp New Hope host many programs for individuals to enjoy experiences with their friends. We build long lasting memories and friendships while care givers can enjoy a break from their care giving responsibilities. Camp New Hope lies on 41 rolling acres on the shores of Lake Mattoon. Year after year, our campers enjoy the excitement of fishing and pontoon boat rides on the lake, train rides around our trails, swimming in our pool, playing on our playground and mini golf course, games, crafts and more.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in leading individuals within a small group in daily aspects in camp life, programs, and activities.
- Enthusiastically participate in camp activities and encourage camper participation in camp activities.
- Follow direction of supervisor and leadership staff and work effectively as a team member with other staff.
- Properly, adequately, and continuously monitor campers under your supervision, and take responsibility for assisting with their comfort and ensuring their safety. Follow all safety, emergency, and health regulations.
- Know each camper and the supports they need by reviewing their camp application and caregiver’s instructions. This includes eating, toileting schedule, bathing, etc.
- Care or assist in care for the needs of the camper including toileting, changing, bathing, and feeding.
- Sleep in cabins with campers and assist in any overnight needs of the campers. (Night Counselors Only)
- Follow all camp policies and procedures.
- Responsible for creating and or assisting music sessions adaptable for all of our Campers.
- Must be able to cross train and complete other duties as assigned.
Shifts:
Flexible shifts Available Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30 - 5
