PRE-KINDERGARTEN TEACHER ASSISTANT

General Definition of Work
Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting a teacher.
Employee may perform a wide range of tasks in order to support the efforts of the lead teacher, meet the
needs of all students, and ensure the provision of quality instruction for all students. Employee provides
one-on-one assistance with academics and behavioral problems and may lead small group activities.
Employee assists lead teacher with general housekeeping and clerical duties.

Pay Grade 57
Qualification Requirements
• High school diploma and two-year Associate degree in Early Childhood required.
• Holds or is eligible for a NC Dept. of Health and Human Services – Child Care Criminal Background
Check and approval letter.
• Bilingual preferred.
Education and Experience

Essential Functions
- Assists teacher with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating Instructional activities,
- Helps assure that students are properly supervised at all times.
- Helps students with personal care and hygiene needs.
- Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students; monitors student attitudes and
encourages self-esteem; assists students with becoming increasingly independent in activities of
daily living.
