JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Manager of Language Access Services coordinates the daily operations of the Networks 24/7 Language Access Services department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of standards of practice for interpreters, translations, and cross-cultural services in support of patient-centered clinical excellence and innovative practice in the field of language service; policy and procedure development; personnel management; documentation; compliance with laws, policies and regulations; financial management; team building; and quality improvement across the Health Network. The Manager is also responsible for data analysis and ongoing process improvement. This position contributes to the integration of evidence-based practice, regulatory requirements, policies and procedures, and community and cultural needs to best meet the needs of the Limited-English Proficient (LEP), Deaf, Hard of Hearing and DeafBlind populations served by the University of Vermont Health Network.
EDUCATION:
Education/Credentialing: BA/BS in language, language access, public health or similar field required; MA/MS in a relevant field preferred. Requires verification of interpreting or translation skills; national interpreting or translation credential such as CHI, CMI, RID-NIC or ATA preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Three (3) years interpreting experience, preferably in a healthcare environment; may substitute native or near-native bilingual fluency plus three years’ experience in a healthcare or business management field
- Three (3) years of leadership experience which includes planning, organizing, managing, evaluating, and process improvement of language access services program.
Preferred:
- Five (5) years interpreting experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Five (5) years of leadership experience which includes, planning, organizing, managing, evaluating, and process improvement of a language access services program.
