The Program: Notre Dame AmeriCorps - Philadelphia helps support various programs and schools in the greater Philadelphia area. This program, started by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, seeks to build community among our members, as well as the people with whom we work by reaching out across culture and class. We are committed to helping people help themselves. Our goal is to promote and encourage education, community empowerment, leadership development and multicultural harmony. NDA creates holistic educational programs for at-risk children and adults in economically disadvantaged communities. Members serve in different non-profits, schools, or after school programs throughout the city of Philadelphia. The Service Site: Established in 1902, Lutheran Settlement House (LSH) is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to serving vulnerable children, adults, and families living in Philadelphia. Over the past century, the programs and services offered by LSH have changed in response to the evolving needs of the community. However, the core mission of Lutheran Settlement House —"to empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency through an integrated program of social, educational, and advocacy services"— has remained constant.
Service Description/Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Manager of Children & Youth Services, the Youth Activities VISTA provides implementation of programming for all school-aged children at Jane Addams Place, an emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness. The Youth Activities VISTA develops age appropriate programming opportunities and runs programming for the children, youth, and teens residing at the shelter.
- Maintain and build programming activities, including creation of monthly calendar, advertisement of events, coordination of onsite events, and field trips.
- Create programs that offer continuous utilization of the teen room.
- Implement programming ideas related to Social Emotional Learning rubric.
- Coordinate with volunteers and other partnerships that serve families.
- Support Residential Assistants on duty as needed, including monitoring cameras and clerical support.
- Support interns with duties pertaining to programming needs.
- Performs other duties as necessary.

- Knowledge of the developmental, emotional, psychological and educational needs of children who are experiencing homelessness.
