ER Ultrasound Technician
The Ultrasound Technician (Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Ultrasound Technician includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has completed the appropriate ARDMS certification(s) which is the standard of practice in ultrasound.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.
At least 2 years of ultrasound/sonography experience
LANGUAGE/MATH/REASONING ABILITY
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situation
COMPUTER SKILLS
Basic computer skills
CERTIFICATE/LICENSES
Active certification by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate.
Current BCLS Certification
Good communication skills
JOB DUTIES & SKILLS:
- Excellent Customer Service
- Courtesy and respect for every staff member
- Documents all findings accurately
- Completes documentation for females of childbearing age and diabetic patients
- Accurate documentation of lab testing, critical values, and communications.
- Initiates IV access with physician’s order and obtains specimens for laboratory testing.
- Maintains patient log for CT and x-ray.
- Performs all daily lab and equipment checks for quality assurance.
- Maintains the facility in clean working order in accordance with OSHA and reports any equipment failure or deficiencies to the Nurse Manager.
- Accurately documents any incidents and reports them to the Nurse Manager and Physician on duty.
- Uses Biohazard containers correctly.
