Job Summary
The Harvard Depository is a customer-focused storage facility housing primarily paper-based library collections and records, located approximately 30 miles west of Boston. Founded by the Harvard University Library in 1986, the Depository provides cost-effective media storage in the best environmental conditions available. The HD staff share a common mission to meet client expectations for service and reliability.
Position Description
Reporting to the Harvard Depository Manager and working closely with peers in a team setting, this position will be responsible for performing activities that include the following:
Sizing, sorting, counting, and scanning new items into the Depository database.
Shelving trays and boxes in warehouse setting.
Retrieving, sorting, and refiling circulating items at Harvard Depository (HD) and Records Management Services (RMS 2).
Generating reports and verifying the accuracy of activity.
Adjusting, labeling, scanning shelves.
Executing projects of various types, which may include checking inventory, assembling boxes, adjusting shelving units in warehouse, relocating media, as required.
Basic Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in a production environment.
Must be able to lift and carry boxes weighing in excess of 40 pounds.
Ability to operate electric lift equipment to heights of 30 feet required.
Ability to use a ladder to heights of 10 feet required.
Ability to work in 50º F. environment for extended periods required.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Storage/warehousing experience preferred.
Excellent attendance record, punctuality, reliability, and the ability to work well with others.
Must have reliable mode of personal transportation to and from the worksite.
Good interpersonal and communication skills and excellent attention to detail.
Ability to be flexible and respond positively to fluctuating workflows and changes in routine.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and customers.
Competency to perform repetitive tasks with overall accuracy and effectiveness.
Familiarity with computers and automated inventory systems preferred.
Familiarity with standard office software (Microsoft Word and Excel, email, calendaring applications, etc.)
Strong oral and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements
Involves frequent use of desktop and mobile computer keyboard and mouse.
Requires lifting and carrying bins up to 40 pounds; pushing and maneuvering full book trucks, including moving and shifting these materials between workstations, shelves, book trucks, boxes, and bins.
Ability to work in 50º F. environment for extended periods required.
Ability to operate electric lift equipment to heights of 30 feet required.
Ability to use a ladder to heights of 10 feet required.
Ability to work in two buildings that will require walking outdoors.
Requires ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a warehouse environment at 2 campus locations
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
May have limited exposure to dust, dirt or mold on books
Warehouse and production temperature ranges:
Production area = 60 – 70 degrees
Warehouse = 50 degrees
Film vault = 40 degrees
Outdoor = seasonal temperatures

Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm with two paid 15-minute breaks and a half hour unpaid lunch. Alternatively, the schedule could be set to accommodate an hour unpaid lunch.
