Packaging Engineer Job at Skjodt-Barrett
Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Develop and implement packaging solutions for new and existing products and components
- Lead the development of new product packaging solutions
- Create trial protocols with customers to include new formulations, pack size, artwork transitions, etc.
- Prepare plant by communicating trial details, and participate in trials on production floor
- Identify and select packaging materials in conjunction with Research & Development teams
- Identify and select appropriate manufacturing processes and equipment for the production of new packaging
- Coordinate trial scheduling, execution, and follow-up actions
- Create post-trial reports and facilitate actions
- Coordinate equipment changes (printers, change parts, etc.)
- Serve as packaging technology subject matter expert on multifunctional project teams
- Guide development of new packaging with a strong focus on robust manufacturability
- Independently manage timeline and deliverable goals of project activities
- Present project status reports to senior leadership
- Plant liaison with customers and certain suppliers
- Support and direct QA on extra sampling requirements
- Participate in plant safety initiatives
- Other ad-hoc duties as assigned
Skills Needed
- Highly motivated with excellent organizational and analytical/technical problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed
- Experience in contract food manufacturing or CPG
- Project management and Six Sigma certifications are a plus
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Science or related technical discipline is required
- 3 years of relevant experience in packaging design and testing beneficial
- Packaging development experience in selecting materials, producing designs and analyzing process capability and manufacturing and capital costs required
- Previous experience in an FDA (Food and Drug Administration) GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) environment is desirable
