JOB TITLE: Paraprofessional FSLA: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: A minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a passing score on the approved paraprofessional assessment or two (2) years of college credit.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Must be organized, reliable, and possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work under stress.
  • Must possess the skills and abilities to professionally interact with a wide variety of people in person, in writing and by phone.
  • Must possess good communication skills (written and verbal)


JOB FUNCTIONS:

Perform duties that are instructional in nature and deliver direct services to students or parents. Serve in a position for which a teacher or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teacher(s) in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Prepare bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
  • Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers.
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, gymnasiums, and/or field trips.
  • Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students.
  • Distribute tests and homework assignments, and collect them when completed.
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Assist with grading various assignments under the direction of the teacher.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Observe students' performances, and record relevant data to assess progress.
  • Organize and label materials, and display students' work.
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
  • Assist in bus dismissal.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by the classroom teacher and/or building administrator in accordance with the school and district practices.
