GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is maintaining the cleanliness and safety of County buildings. Employees in this classification perform manual work. Position is responsible for cleaning floors, furniture, windows, and restroom facilities; changing light bulbs and replenishing supplies such as paper and soap; and maintaining security of locked doors and windows in buildings. Performs related work as required.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Cleans and services assigned areas, including rooms, halls, stairways, kitchen areas, and restrooms; sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and buffs floors; dusts, washes, and polishes woodwork and furniture; washes walls, windows, shelves, mirrors, and horizontal surfaces; cleans carpets with vacuum cleaners; may shampoo carpet.

Empties and cleans waste receptacles; sorts recyclables; disposes of trash; sweeps sidewalks and maintains entrance to building.

Replenishes supplies of paper and soap; requests supply for assigned building; may help unload and deliver supplies.

Attends and adheres to any safety or instructional training pertaining to specified duties. Uses appropriate PPE while performing all housekeeping tasks.

Ability to work correctly and efficiently alone or as a part of a team.

Reports maintenance problems and necessary repairs; reports safety concerns; may perform minor maintenance; maintains cleanliness and working condition of equipment; stores equipment properly.

Assists housekeepers at buildings other than assigned building.

Performs related duties as required.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Changes household type light bulbs in lamps

Maintains security of building by locking all doors and windows; unlocks doors as needed; turns on and off lights when assigned.

Sets-up for special functions and meetings

Be available for after hour events to preform specified tasks (example, disinfect areas during Commissioners meetings)

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED preferred; supplemented by little or no previous experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina.

In accordance with the county's drug free workplace policy, employees will be subject to pre-employment and random drug screening.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to arrange, compare, count, differentiate, measure and/or sort data and/or information. Includes judging whether readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics are similar to or divergent from prescribed standards, procedures or routines.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to exchange information for the purpose of obtaining information or clarifying details. Performs such within well established policies, procedures and standards.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to use, operate, and/or handle housekeeping equipment, such as brooms, mops, buckets, and cleaning machines, and hand tools to perform minor maintenance.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference data and information, such as material safety data sheets, equipment operating and maintenance manuals, policy manuals, and safety manuals.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Involves routine work according to clearly prescribed standard practices, with some latitude for independent judgment.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.
