MSA is a longtime supplier and a world leader in producing components with advanced stamping and welding technologies. The Auburn facility is important for MSA to grow its components business in North America.

Role Summary/Purpose

The employee in this role will be required to perform each of the tasks below in a safe and timely manner. Must be able to work with minimum supervision.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Monitor recording instruments, flowmeters, panel lights, or other indicators and listen for warning signals, to verify conformity of process conditions
  • Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations, as directed by supervisory personnel
  • Control/operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panelboards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment
  • Make necessary adjustments on equipment affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields
  • Inspect operating units, such as towers, soap-spray storage tanks, scrubbers, collectors, or driers to ensure that all are functioning and to maintain maximum efficiency
  • Sample products and conduct quality control tests to monitor processing/ensure standards are met
  • Record operating data, such as process conditions, test results, or instrument readings
  • Patrol work areas to ensure that solutions in tanks or troughs are not in danger of overflowing.
  • Turn valves to regulate flow of products or byproducts through agitator tanks, storage drums, or neutralizer tanks
  • Interpret chemical reactions and review laboratory test reports for process adjustments
  • Confer with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, or product quality
  • Rinse reactor vessels to exhaust gases or vapors, to regulate flow of oil, steam, air or blending vessels
  • Notify maintenance, or other auxiliary personnel to correct equipment malfunctions or to adjust power, steam, water, or air supplies.
  • Gauge tank levels, using calibrated rods
  • Direct workers engaged in operating machinery that regulates the flow of materials and products.
  • Follows hazardous waste rules for the generation and placement of hazardous waste into containers
  • Follows the hazardous waste rules for the labeling and transport of hazardous waste.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Willing to and able to pass Hazardous Waste Management Training per Maine Chapter 851, Section 8B(5)

  • Five years experience in plating area as a Solution Analyst
  • Knows plating procedure, chemistry and chemical safety
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills in plating, chemistry and related processes
  • Good safety, attendance and performance record
  • Strong leadership and administrative skills
  • High degree of safety knowledge in the area
  • Communicate effectively
  • Works well with others
  • Has analytical troubleshooting ability
