Our facility is located on the beautiful 30-acre campus in the foothills of Auburn which is a Retirement home for the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Center Conference & 42 room Conference & Retreat Center.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for following the dietary safety guidelines and cleaning procedures established for the department. Regular duties associated with food preparation are required. Demonstrates respectful treatment of the dignity, privacy, and individuality of residents, guests, and co-workers. Incorporates an understanding of Mercy mission and values into work performance.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- One year of related experience in food service operations and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of work experience in food service cooking and preparing food outside of the home environment.
- Must have or obtain a valid Food Handler’s Card.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule that will include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Freedom from illegal use of drugs and freedom from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
- Successfully complete pre-employment requirements, including a physical, background check, drug test and TB test.
- Able to read fine print in written documents and use visual discrimination in reading documents, including color discrimination.
- Able to speak clearly and be understood while also understanding others using the English language.
Preferred:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Food service experience at an assisted living.

Physical Requirements:
- Frequent walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, carrying and lifting of dish racks, bus tubs, trays of food, and other objects up to 50 pounds.
- Works almost constantly in a standing position.
- Frequent need to understand and communicate concepts behind specific ideas and the theories behind several related concepts.
- Function in a general office environment under normal conditions.
- Ability to operate personal computers and standard office equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and recipes.
- Must have ability to operate kitchen equipment as needed.
- Sufficient manual dexterity to safely handle dishes and kitchen equipment.
- Will be working in Resident Dining Rooms and Mercy Center; therefore, this individual must be able to maintain a clean, neat appearance.
- Works in a relatively confined kitchen and dish washing room area which may become quite warm.
- Frequent exposure of hands to water, cleaners, and disinfectants.
Visual/Audible Acuity Requirements:
- Able to read fine print in written documents and use visual discrimination in reading documents, including color discrimination.
- Able to speak clearly and be understood while also understanding others using the English language.
The position is the combination of a cook and a food service worker. It could start as help in the mornings with breakfast that starts at 5:30am/6:00 -2:00pm/2:30pm, 8:30-5:00pm but could be also scheduled to work 10:30-7pm as needed. You would be doing a combination of work here.
This position is a flexible schedule that consists of working 5 days a week including weekends. There are no set days scheduled for this position.
The food service team will ideally be a 9-person team that serves our busy 42 room Conference & Retreat center and also the Retirement home for the Sisters of Mercy.
