What do Youth Programs Instructors do?
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth Programs Instructor is responsible for assistance in a program with groups of children ages 4-13 years old. This includes supervision, program development, staff development, general maintenance, safety, parent involvement and communication.
- Empathetically listen and communicate for understanding.
- Build relationships to create small communities.
- Provide staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support.
- Build and nurture strategic collaborations within the community.
- Planning, supervising and implementing the program in accordance with the policies, procedures and philosophies of the YMCA.
- Maintains proper control using constructive methods, gearing the program to the needs of the individual child.
- Enforces rules which will ensure a safe, secure environment.
- Help each child become aware of his/her rule as a group member.
- Responsible for maintaining positive parent/staff relationships.
- Exemplifies the YMCA Core Values.
- Supports policies, procedures and philosophy of the Channel Islands YMCA Association.
- Responsible for order, arrangement, appearance and environment of the site.
- Maintains positive attitude.
- Follow through of procedures of Emergency Action Plan and behavioral issues
- Completes any other tasks assigned by the Program Director

- Previous work experience in related field preferred
- Must be at least 16 years old
- CPR and First Aid certification- can be provided by the YMCA if needed
