About Beyond Basics

Founded in 2002, Beyond Basics is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to eradicate illiteracy, transforming the lives of students and creating stronger communities. Our one-on-one, multisensory tutoring program helps students achieve grade-level proficiency in reading in an average of six weeks. In addition to our structured literacy interventions, we cultivate curiosity and encourage a love of lifelong learning with fine arts activities that expand horizons.

Job description:

Reading Tutors are trained to work one-on-one with individuals utilizing the Beyond Basics Tutoring Program curriculum. Tutors work with 3-5 students per day (1 hour session per student or group) each week during school hours to improve literacy and ensure the students complete the program successfully and are able to apply the concepts learned.

Collaborate with Program Manager to coordinate the implementation of individualized reading programs for students/adults.

Turn in weekly data reports, timesheets, and other records to the Program Manager/Lead Tutor at your site.

Interface with the Program Manager/Lead Tutor to schedule pre-tutoring testing and post-tutoring testing.

You will report directly to the Program Manager/Lead Tutor at your assigned location. Tutors primarily work inside a dedicated Beyond Basics classroom located directly within the various schools that we partner with.

Requirements:

School tutors must be available Monday-Friday during school hours (between the school hours of 8:00 am-4:00 pm).

You must be looking for a challenging and rewarding experience.

Tutors must exude positive energy and have an enthusiasm for working with school-aged children and passion for helping those students achieve their reading goals.

All potential tutors will need to successfully a 2.5 week-long training in the Beyond Basics Reading Tutor curriculum.

One year college education and two years tutoring experience preferred.

Compensation:

$20 per hour

The Beyond Basics Reading Tutor position is contingent upon a positive interview, completing a background check and successfully completing the training.
