POSITION SUMMARY:

The Resident Camp Counselor lives with and guides campers throughout their camp experience and activities. Counselors create a learning environment for campers that teaches the YMCA four core values of respect, honesty, responsibility and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for leadership and guidance over assistant counselor(s) and to campers indaily living, with special attention to: personal hygiene and safety, camper participation in all-camp activities, camper participation in the cabin group and cabin activities including cabin closings, meal time behavior and habits
  • Responsible for developing and facilitating curriculum inassigned activity area
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a group counselor or staff member in a camp setting; trip leading experience is preferred
  • Extensive experience in the outdoors either personally or professionally; knowledge in backpacking, rock climbing, and water sports is preferred
  • Self-motivated and work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to relate to peers as well as youth effectively; excellent communication skills
SALARY RANGE: $585 per week
