Nominated best sushi restaurant in Santa Cruz for many years, we strive to provide not just the freshest seafood and sushi but also the best environment to work at. Our diverse staff is what we build our brand and culture from. Our staff members come from many different backgrounds, with different experience and skillsets. Yet all members work together in a very positive and tight-knit environment. Our second AKIRA location was established in 2017 in Aptos Village, and has been moving towards a more positive direction despite COVID-19. AKIRA Aptos caters to not just middle- and high-class clienteles here in Aptos, but also to all types of customers coming from Watsonville, Santa Cruz, and even from Hollister. We have a growing number of local followers as well as tourists. Our customers come to us not just because we serve the best sushi, but also because we have a well-trained friendly staff. We are looking streamline AKIRA Aptos to turn it into a more structured corporation and a more high-end venue. Therefore, a general manager with experience in restaurant industry is what we need to make it happen.

JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruiting, hiring and training Front-of-House (FOH) staff, including servers, bussers, and hosts
  • Develop, implement, and monitor schedules for the operation of all food and beverage sub-departments to achieve a profitable result
  • Streamlining the restaurant processes to improve the guest experience
  • Monitoring restaurant finances, including sales and expenses
  • implement effective control of food, beverage, and labor costs among all departments to AKIRA Aptos standards
  • Enforcing food handling regulations and other guidelines to increase guest safety
  • organize the activities of the Food and Beverage to maintain the highest standards of food and beverage quality, outstanding service and merchandising to maximize guest satisfaction
  • Abide by all State, Federal and Corporate requirements pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages
  • Leading, directing and managing all F & B operations including the sushi bar, kitchen and FOH
  • Promoting the restaurant and finding ways to bring in more customers
  • Handling customer complaints
  • Completing necessary paperwork, such as sales, inventory and staff attendance reports
  • Regularly review and evaluate the degree of guest satisfaction of the individual restaurants and banquet service, to recommend new operating and marketing policies whenever declining or constant sales imply dissatisfaction by the customers, a material change in the make-up or the customer market, or a change in the competitive environment

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • At least 2-3 years of restaurant managing experience
  • Leadership to guide and inspire staff
  • Ability to speak and write English (Spanish is a bonus)
  • Ability to use the POS system (Aldelo)
  • Understanding of how the food service industry works
  • Strong organizational skills to keep things running smoothly and effectively
  • Problem-solving skills for unexpected circumstances, such as staffing shortages or unhappy customers
  • Financial knowledge to manage the budget effectively and keep the restaurant profitable
  • Analytical skills to interpret reports and make data-driven decisions
  • Experience using restaurant management software
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills to create positive relationships
  • Ability to stay calm in a fast-paced environment and pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle difficult customers or resolving conflicts between staff members
  • Passion to providing excellent customer service
  • Ability to delegate tasks, lead by example and inspire employees to work hard
