Position Summary

The Sales Associate contributes to the mission of Goodwill by providing the best customer service to our customers and donors. Assists the sales team in keeping the store clean, full, and pulled. Receives and processes donations with minimal supervision all the while trying to meet the daily production goals.

Essential Duties include the following.

  • Demonstrates an enthusiastic, positive attitude at all times.
  • Acts courteously and with interest in each shopper, customer, and donor encounter.
  • Greets every customer swiftly upon entering the building, makes eye contact, and smiles.
  • Thanks to each customer at the end of the transaction and when they leave the store even if they did not make a purchase.
  • Greets every donor at the start of the interaction and thanks them at the end.
  • Engages with customers to assist if needed, and takes the opportunity to roam the sales floor in the assigned area to learn the layout.
  • Processes customer transactions quickly and accurately within the cash handling guidelines.
  • Observes proper register practices when opening at the beginning of the shift and counting down the register at the end of each shift.
  • Participates in putting fresh products out on the sales floor, rotating stock, and knows to request material when needed.
  • Maximizes the store’s appearance by cleaning and straightening.
  • Knows to sort and price incoming merchandise when needed.
  • Maintains the sales floor to keep it clean, full, and pulled.
  • Keeps the Point of Sale area cleaned, sanitized, and free of clutter.
  • If unable to address a store cleanliness issue, will bring the situation to the attention of management or mentor.
  • Knows to maintain all floor visual presentations (i.e. housewares, linens, end of the H-rack, rack toppers, mannequins, and visuals with low stock.)
  • Maintains excellent attendance and is dependable.
  • Refrains from and does not contribute to drama in the workplace.
  • Knows the proper security and safety measures of the building and merchandise.
  • Knows the Mission of Wabash Valley Goodwill
  • Other duties within the scope of this position may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The associate in this position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education and or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, and one to three months related retail experience and/or training preferred.

Associates are required to follow Goodwill’s safety rules and regulations, as outlined in Goodwill’s employee handbook.

  • Responsible for reporting any potentially unsafe working conditions.
  • Responsible for reporting any incident/accident that occurs within the shift it occurred.
  • Responsible for wearing the proper protective equipment as assigned.
  • Responsible to use the equipment & materials properly.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
